Snowlion Rep is
Theater
Made in Maine

This is quite simply our largest, most complex, most expensive show to date!  We're talking about "Mesmerized" - coming to you May 3-12 at our home base of Portland Ballet Studio Theater.

A dramatic, humorous, and 100% true tale of one of history's most maligned healers, "Mesmerized" is about a society grappling with great change and fierce division.  Sound familiar?

Make your plans now to see "Mesmerized" - a musical unlike any you've ever seen before!

Sincerely,

Al D'Andrea, Artistic Director

PHOTOS from our first
MESMERIZED press event!

The lead actors in the cast of "Mesmerized" had an opportunity to don their period costumes and pose in the impressive VICTORIA MANSION to create our early press photos for our upcoming production!  Great thanks go to Torie and the Victoria Mansion crew for hosting us!

Alan Forrest McLucas portrays the infamous Dr. Anton Mesmer, now regarded as the father of hypnosis, with Rachel Grindle as Theresa Paradies, the blind prodigy pianist at the root of Mesmer's triumph, disgrace, and ultimate redemption.

Kelly Caufield portrays Anna Mesmer, the doctor's beleaguered wife, with Aaron Engebreth as Mesmer's protege, Dr. Charles D'Eslon.

Mesmer is famous for using a power he called "animal magnetism" to effect his cures.  That power, he believed, resided in his hands.  But society was not ready to accept the miracle of his many cures, and Mesmer struggled against great powers to find society's acceptance.

If you wish to know more about this amazing true story and the impact it continues to have on today's healing community, don't miss

Mesmerized
A World Premiere Musical

Snowlion Rep will be presenting a world premiere musical as the feature show of the season!

  (book by Al D'Andrea,
music by Darryl Curry, lyrics by MK Wolfe).

A  concert  performance of this new musical was seen at the first PortFringe,  and the New Maine Times  called it

"a triumphant night of theater"

Set in 1777 Vienna, Mesmerized
is the true story of Dr. Anton Mesmer, now regarded as the father of modern hypnosis, and the scandal that erupted when he restored the sight of the young blind prodigy pianist Theresa Paradies using t he radical curative technique and invisible force he called "animal magnetism."

The show plunges the audience into Mesmer's world at the dawn of the Age of Reason, populated with characters including Mozart, Benjamin Franklin, the Queen Empress of the Holy Roman Empire, and others - all 100% true encounters had by the infamous doctor, presented in dramatic musical theater format (with an ample dose of humor throughout).

The show will be presented at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater May 3-12, 2019.

Mark your calendars for a musical journey back to the 18th Century, in a show that crackles with an "Invisible Fire" (which is what Mesmer called the power he harnessed to effect his cures).
