There is a stark contrast between the widely
held myths and realities about hunger.
Hunger exists because there is not enough food.
Reality
The best adjective to accurately describe the amount of food available in the United States is abundant. Hunger affects 1 out of every 8 American men, women and children and persists in this country not because of a lack of food, but because we lack the political will to end the problem by ensuring that vulnerable people have equal access to nutritious food.
Click here to read about the other seven other hunger myths.
From our advocacy partners at
Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. For more than 30 years, MAZON has been committed to ensuring that vulnerable people have access to the resources they need to be able to put food on the table. MAZON is a leading voice in Washington D.C. on anti-hunger issues, especially those that involve populations or problems that have been previously overlooked or ignored.

Interested? You will need to apply through the 2018 STEP (Summer Transformation Education Program) Mission Internship. (see the application link below)
2018 Summer Mission Intern application (fillable pdf)
The mission of the STEP (Summer Transformation Education Program) Mission Intern Program is to provide hands-on opportunities for young adults to make a difference in the world by serving out of a deep level of their Christian faith, particularly with children and youth in underserved communities. Ministry sites are primarily Christian day camps and outreach ministries connected with The Florida Conference of The United Methodist Church. The duration of the internship is 9-11 weeks (between the dates of May 21- August 4, 2018) and is dependent upon the site at which the intern is placed. A stipend of at least $2,000 for the summer is provided, based upon completion of entire term of service.
Submit the completed application (see the link below), recommendation letter, and résumé via email to Jessica Weseman, YAMM Mission Coordinator, at [email protected].
For more information about the Summer Mission Intern Program or questions regarding the application, please contact Jessica Weseman.
