I Want Life to Get Back to Normal

How often have you heard those words in the past months? I have also heard from our members that they wish things at Unity could get back to normal. God has blessed us during this pandemic in many ways that enable us to stay connected with each other here at Unity. Our Prayer Partners make wellness calls to every member each month. Many people have told me they are sending cards and calling each other. Our technology team of Dale, Timothy and Dennis work to keep us connected through live streaming Sunday service. Classes continue with some in-person and others attending via Zoom. Let's thank each other for what we all do to keep our Unity center vibrant and alive during these times. It truly takes a village.

Another aspect of this pandemic is finances. Many families are struggling and so are businesses and non-profits. We too at Unity are feeling the effects. It is understood that people need a certain amount of their income for essentials. If you are one of the fortunate ones who have some discretionary income please put some thought into how your donation could help. Is Unity an important part of your life? Is it an aspect of your life you want to support? A few members have shared with me that since they are not coming in person they are forgetting to give monetarily. Please know that though you aren't attending in person we continue to need to meet the expenses of our building and our staff.

The prosperity/finance team will be meeting in December. It's difficult to budget not knowing what our income will be. I am sure many of you feel the same way about your household. A way that you can help us with developing a realistic budget is to use our Auto-Giving program. Before I started using the program I was a bit anxious to commit my donation. What if I needed that money for something else? I quickly came to the realization that one of the things I need most in my life is Unity; the principles of Unity, the Love and Energy I feel when I connect with my fellow Unity people, the connection I feel at Sunday service to just name a few. I feel supported by Unity and I want to support Unity so that others too can feel the Love and Energy we have to share.

Blessings and love to all of you.
Sue Carlson, President of the Board of Trustees

The Power of the Unity Teachings

As we move towards the closing of a year no one of us could have ever imagined (well maybe in the minds of science fiction writers), we all hope closing the door on 2020 will mean closure also to a pandemic and its devastating results. That doesn't appear to be the case, as our numbers continue to increase. November and December are supposed to bring family gatherings, joy and a coming together like we don't experience any other time of the year. Already Thanksgiving and Christmas are looking very different for everyone.

While we'd like to slam the door shut on this year, the dictionary defines 20/20 as seeing clearly; normal vision. Was this year and its ensuing never-before imagined experiences, a piece of guiding us to our awakening, to seeing more clearly? If so, what then was it we were awakening to; needing to experience and learn? The last two months of any year, at least in northern Wisconsin, prepare us for winter's hibernation. A time nature recognizes as important; a going within and getting ready for a new growth season. To that we may respond-enough; I've had enough time for introspection nine months of it since mid-March. Hmmm, nine months; well that is the time of gestation for a human being.

New Thought and Unity have taught, since their inception in the late 1800's, the importance of living in the moment, that all we have is today-and to make it the best day ever. We may want to continue to plan for the future, a future none of us can now predict. If we hadn't learned that before, 2020 certainly taught us about future planning. I've seen it with couples wanting to marry and families wanting to travel.

Eckhart Tolle wrote a phenomenal best-seller titled The Power of Now; that may be a book to revisit. All we have is now-this moment-and our thoughts and actions can make it the best moment by embracing gratitude and thanksgiving. Giving thanks for this experience-an opportunity to search deep in our inner being to know, however society wants to label it, that we are awakening to a New Earth (Tolle's second book).

As we move thru these last two months of 2020 our prayer is that we all have the courage, the fortitude and hope to embrace, welcome and give thanks for whatever 2021 wants to share with us. We stand strong in knowing with God all things are possible.

Peace!

Rev. Sandra McKinney

Ministerial Recruit Team... on a Roll
Mari Jackson, Steve Bircher, Carol Craig and Steve Friede have been 'teaming up' for Unity of Eau Claire to ensure everything is in order for prospective part-time ministerial candidates. As you may remember, all the required paperwork was submitted to Unity Worldwide Ministry (UWM) in June, 2020. To date, we have had one formal request for the position but that candidate decided to seek other spiritual paths.

Over the last couple months, the MRT has been busy communicating with UWM to seek ways to make our position at Unity of Eau Claire a bit more attractive. Staff at UWM and Rev. Ray (who has been an invaluable resource) basically say that there are more positions open than there are candidates to fill them; that it is not unusual to have a long wait for candidates; that a part-time positions tends to be in less demand; that most candidates are from 'warm states' and it will be the "right and authentic " Spiritual Leader that will be guided to winter in Eau Claire for a part-time position.

Based on the above, MRT has made a couple recommendations to the Board regarding compensation offers and marketing of Unity of Eau Claire. The Board has agreed to resubmit the initial paper work with a different compensation plan and marketing information regarding the 'really cool' attributes of Eau Claire/Chippewa Valley. The form already is full of great things about Unity of Eau Claire!

Lastly, we recommended that we get an interview team "up and ready" knowing that the right and authentic Spiritual Leader will arrive in Divine time. The tentative Interview Group met October 21st, and will likely consist of Jan Swanson, Steve Bircher, Brandon Mondlock, Teresa Luginbill, Sue Carlson and Rev. Ray. Another meeting is scheduled on Nov. 4th to finalize the Interview Group and begin frame-working possible interview activities and procedures. Please feel free to contact anyone on the MRT with ideas or questions - we're still "rolling along"! Also please hold in prayer those at Unity who are accepting the responsibilities associated with hiring a new minister - your prayers are every bit as important (maybe more?) as the many meetings and discussions of the MRT, Unity Board and Interview Group.

It's exciting to have an opportunity to fundraise for Unity!

1) Looking for a "wardrobe" type cabinet for the children's toys. The size of the space is 6 feet wide and 6-7 feet high.
The goal is to make sure the toys stay clean and it will help the meeting room to be more generic looking for groups and weddings.
2) Sue is looking for used jewelry (even if not in good shape or broken) to re-purpose or sell, with proceeds going to the general fund. Drop off in the office in a package marked 'Sue Carlson' thanks.

l WAS AT A UNITY SERVICE IN PERSON A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, WHEN REVEREND LYLE WAS THERE - AND WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT - I FORGOT MY HEARING AIDS.  BEFORE THE SERVICE STARTED, I ASKED REV. LYLE TO PLEASE SPEAK LOUDLY, AND DALE OVERHEARD ME.  HE HOOKED ME UP WITH ONE OF THE HEARING DEVICES THEY HAVE AT UNITY.  (THANK YOU, DALE.)  IT WORKED WONDERFULLY.  WHAT IS SO HELPFUL WITH THESE DEVICES IS THAT THEY INCREASE THE VOLUME OF ONLY WHAT IS GOING THROUGH THE MICROPHONE, SO YOU DON'T GET ANY OTHER SOUNDS INTERFERING - NO AMBIENT SOUNDS.  IT WAS SO EASY TO HEAR.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE DEVICES.  THANK YOU ALL!

The Prayer Team is available when you have a request!

Do not be afraid to reach out for support. Call the office at 715-836-0010 or Timothy's cellular phone 715-533-3260 if you have an immediate need. Also, send us an email prayer request at [email protected]. Remember
