Share your voice: FCUSD's spending plan for student success
The state of California directs a greater share of public education funding to high-need schools, and requires districts to plan for and show how these funds are spent in a document called a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is a state-mandated document that must be updated each year to ensure that the District not only is targeting its services and expenditures toward our highest-need students, but also to measure whether those actions are meeting the desired outcomes.

We can't identify our highest areas of need without working with all of our stakeholders - our employees, families, students, and community members - to identify what those are. Here's how to do that:

STEP 1: Watch our 2017-18 LCAP presentation. This video provides background on the purpose of the LCAP, and summaries of goals, actions, services, and desired student outcomes.
STEP 2: Take our survey . The deadline to take our online survey is 5 p.m. Friday, April 20.

More info: All of these resources, including translated materials, are available at www.fcusd.org/lcap. Still have questions? Contact FCUSD Communication & Community Engagement at (916) 294-9000 ext. 104530 or
VIDEO: Parents of children with autism promote awareness at Gold Ridge Elementary
World Autism Awareness Day was Monday, April 2.  For the fourth year in a row, parent Bea McCloud, whose son Doug has autism, has organized an Autism Awareness Workshop for students and staff at Gold Ridge Elementary to promote awareness in the community.

A group of parent volunteers whose kids have autism and staff, including Principal David Frankel, work together to coordinate this learning experience for the Gold Ridge community. Students and staff learned about how people with autism communicate and learn going through different stations, which allowed them to walk away with a better understanding of autism.

We hope their story helps spread more awareness and acceptance of people with autism.

VIDEO: Measure P bonds fund new Auxiliary Gym at Cordova
Article and video by: FCUSD Communication Intern Jeremy Buck

Thanks to the generosity of Rancho Cordova taxpayers, who approved Measure P years ago, Cordova High School's new auxiliary gymnasium is ready to host student athletes and activities!

Principal Dan Anklam shared his gratitude to all who helped make this gym possible in this video. Learn more about all the projects Measure P funded here.

Many sports will also take part in the new gym, ones that draw a smaller crowd like volleyball, or wrestling. Anklam also plans to use the gym for the Blood Drives the school puts on throughout the year.
PHOTOS: Third graders at Theodore Judah teach lessons during Old Folsom History Project
Third graders at Theodore Judah Elementary recently participated in project-based learning presentations called "All Around Folsom Town."

Students of Ms. Foster, Mr. Gallington and Ms. Patel presented to other students, parents, and community members facts about historic places in Folsom that they visited and researched to other students.

For three weeks students worked in collaborative groups doing research, answering questions, visiting sites, learning how to build a final presentation board and leading discussions regarding their historic sites they researched.

Students became true experts on the historical sites in Folsom that they researched.

PHOTOS: Student heritage celebrated at Vista's International Night
Article by FCUSD Communication Intern, John Farris

Vista del Lago recently held their Second Annual International Night on March 7.

Students and faculty filled the gym with exhibits, performances, and other projects showing off their own heritage and those of others.
Many students had their own booths, where they were able to teach others about the cultures that have shaped them and their families. Those in attendance had the chance to not only see visuals provided by the students, but also interact with them by participating in games and even trying some traditional food dishes of the students' choice.

There was plenty of live entertainment in which students had the chance to be in the spotlight, some performed an original dance, sang a classic song from their culture, or participated in the International Fashion Show.

There was a packed house for International Night with a lot of participation from students and their families, as well as staff.

Community Partners Breakfast highlights contributions to our schools
FCUSD's Community Partners Breakfast was held on March 22 honoring our over 100 plus community partners: non profits, businesses and government agencies, that support student learning at the District's  many schools.

It was impossible to fit all of our community partners in this video we produced for the event, but it highlights the difference they all make in the lives of our students. We are so grateful for their continued support of student success.
