Just as the holiday season of Christmas and Hanukah celebrations follows Thanksgiving so naturally does the realization that thankfulness is all about gifting to others. Among folks who hang with Road2Recovery this has the feel of “passing it forward”. Surely there is no better time for us—each of us, no matter our faith—to redress this truth in our own lives. Nor does it seem inappropriate for all of us at R2R to find a moment when we can really take in what has come to pass during this year and celebrate the caring and healing energy that is R2R. And, in doing so, recommit our own energies to forwarding the work of this life-saving project into the coming new year.

TRAINING SESSION

This is an amazing, life-saving intervention for opioid overdose. And, it is amazingly easy to carry with you and administer when confronted with someone who appears to be in overdose. Talk about "saving lives, one at a time"!

FAMILY RECOVERY PROGRAM:

- LOCATION: 8219 Market Place, Bldg. #10, Manlius, N.Y.
Anyone even casually conversant with opioid addiction cannot but appreciate how the suffering is never confined to the addict. It spills out over into the lives of persons who orbit the addict—from family and friends, to employers, co-workers, and, of course into the community at large. Most profoundly affected, of course, are families. Albeit in different and perhaps less obvious ways, families are as devastated by this disease as is the member who suffers as the immediate victim.
Darlene’s most recent innovation into this world of care has been to develop a program of family support—an event to which families of suffering addicts can come to find educational and treatment opportunities as well as extended hands of emotional and spiritual support from persons who have been themselves the “collateral damage” of this virulence.
Specialists in addiction will discuss:
--how do drugs effect the brain
--how to help the person with addiction
--how to care for yourself
--books, groups, and resources.
Structured like a booth-fair this day is designed to reach out to the family members of our recipients (primarily). While others may be able to fill slots untaken, these are themselves fairly limited in number.
This event is free and lunch will be provided.

NOTICES. ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND DATES:
- Darlene and her trusty crew of volunteers is well on her way to delivering Christmas stockings to persons who are hospitalized with opioid-addiction complications during the holidays.
- Everyone is encouraged to add our R2R alumni to their Christmas card list. Addresses for them can be found here
- Terry and Rob Flower have volunteered to send out homemade Christmas cookies and fudge to our alumni. (Anyone else who wants some fudge, it is a matter of a small fee (smile))
- The next Board of Directors Meeting will be held on January 17th, 2019 at the CNYCF Board Room.
- The next Volunteer Meeting will take place at 6:30p.m. on February 13th, 2019 at Fleet Feet.

- The November Board Meeting was held at the CNYCF Board Room on November 27th, 2018. In attendance were Board Members Barry Weiss, Alexandra Punch, and Rob Flower. As we have noted for the past-several installments, the Addiction Policy Forum
offers a website from which an extraordinary amount of important information about opioid addiction can be gleaned. For persons seeking an "informative and accessible" source of information on virtually any aspect of addiction and treatment this is a perfect venue. This month we would spotlight here there own series called

The November Volunteer Meeting took place on the 14
th
, 2018 at Fleet Feet
It was our first-time meeting at Fleet Feet and it was lovely to discover how perfect this venue is.
A goodly portion of the evening was spent thinking through how we might enhance the holiday cheer of persons within our purview. It was decided that we would put together Christmas stockings for persons suffering in the hospital from complications stemming from opioid addiction and that we would each try to include our recipients on our own Christmas card lists. It was also agreed that it would be nice to send a small "care package" of home-baked cookies to our recipients.
In these regards all manner of questions were brought up concerning publicity, future events and planning, and the like.
- PLEASE NOTE: Due to the sequence of forthcoming events mixed in-between holiday celebrations THERE WILL BE NO VOLUNTEER MEETINGS IN EITHER DECEMBER OR JANUARY!!
- PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: from here on out our Volunteer Meetings are scheduled at a set time in the month, every month, and at a set place. Each newsletter will post the actual date, time and place, but this pattern will not change.
- THE REGULAR DATE: The second Wednesday of each month. This means that our next meeting is FEBRUARY 14TH, 2019.
- THE REGULAR TIME: 6:30pm-8:00pm
- THE REGULAR PLACE: FLEET FEET, 5800 BRIDGE STREET (Look for their Community Room in the rear near the restrooms)
