 Creativity

Our core value for July and our calendar theme are both "Creativity". I often hear individuals lament, "I'm just not creative." Wow! They have just created an illusion of limitation that will find lots of ways to manifest around them. We are creative beings. We co-create with the divine power within us as we think and speak-whether we do it consciously or unconsciously. We can't avoid it! Here is an affirmation and some ways to cultivate our creativity from the Unity online article by Elaine Meyer, Daily Word editor:

Creativity is my natural state of being; I am immersed in endless possibilities.

"Creativity can become a habit," says creativity researcher Jonathan Plucker, Ph.D., a psychology professor at Indiana University. "Making it one helps you become more productive." According to a study made by Creativity Research Journal, there are four areas of focus that enhance creativity: Capture your new ideas, seek out challenging tasks, broaden your knowledge, and surround yourself with interesting things and people.

When combined with spiritual practices, we awaken a greater consciousness of our divine power that provides an outlet for expression.

1. Imagine the possibilities. In other words, "To set it right, see it right" by calling upon the power of imagination. Begin by affirming: Creativity is my natural state of being; I am immersed in endless possibilities.

2. Step forward in faith. When we trust the energy within, we find strength to take action toward our goals.

3. Recognize the Divine. Anything we wish to achieve, we can accomplish, because the energy of God is working through us.

Cultivating our creative process takes consistent and concentrated focus, and the rewards are unlimited. With each idea we act upon that comes into fruition, we become an expression of creative energy. There is no end to divine mind and the creativity we can express.

One Heart

A Benefit Concert Dedicated to Healing and Reconciliation

Saturday, July 28, 2018, 7:00 PM

Unity of Lehigh Valley
26 N. 3rd Street
Emmaus, PA 18049
610-965-3036

Enjoy an evening of inspirational music with Steve Gunn and the One Heart Band to raise money to support the philanthropic work of Soldier's Heart in Vietnam.

The One Heart Band
  • John Christie, lead guitar
  • David Monahan, bass
  • Jo Sieger, percussion
Special Guests
  • Singer, song-writers John Thomas and Tom Church
  • The Unity of Lehigh Valley Choir under the direction of Anthony Young

How did this project get started?
Steve went on a Soldier's Heart Journey of Healing and Reconciliation to Vietnam in 2016 and 2017. On the 2016 journey, Steve met Madame Le Ky. The love and forgiveness that Le Ky expressed brought healing for Steve and the other veterans on the journey. In 2017 when Steve became aware that the walls and roof of kitchen in Le Ky's house were in danger of collapse, he set a goal to raise the $3,000 that would be necessary to repair the structure. Le Ky's kitchen is the structure to the right in the photo.

There are Three Ways to Contribute
  • Attend the concert and bring a donation as the price of entry.
  • If you are unable to attend the concert
    • Send a check to Steve made out to Soldier's Heart:
Steve Gunn,
247 Spruce Street
Emmaus, PA 18049
  • Or click on the Donate button on the Soldier's Heart website at www.SoldiersHeart.net.  Donate through PayPal and be sure to insert a note that says "Madame Ky Fund."

Why Should I contribute?
Take one small, sweet step to contribute to reconciliation with a former enemy and contribute to the work of Soldier's Heart, an organization dedicated helping our warriors heal their invisible wounds. Soldier's Heart works with members of the military and military veterans as well as the police and first-responders who protect us here at home.

How will the donations be used?
100% of the $3,000 will go directly to the project which will be managed by Soldier's Heart. The repair project will be managed by Tran Dinh Song, the interpreter for Soldier's Heart in Vietnam. If we raise more than $3,000, 100% will be applied to the work of Soldier's Heart in helping our warriors heal their invisible wounds.

How would you like to serve on the Hospitality Team?  ULV is so grateful to have committed volunteers who serve every week to make our coffee and put out our treats so that we can enjoy fellowship with each other every Sunday.  Occasionally, one of our team members may be unable to make it to church on their dedicated week.

We are seeking someone who would be willing to join the team on an as-needed basis.  You would only be called upon to help out should one of our regular volunteers be unable to come in.  This would not be a regular weekly commitment.

Our Hospitality Team members come in early to make the coffee and then enjoy the sermon.  After the sermon has completed, and our amazing fellowship begins, the Hospitality Team member helps out in the kitchen, sets out the snacks and gets to be thanked over and over for their service!  Sounds great, right?

Our Hospitality Team members do not provide any of the snacks.  You will be shown the routine by one of our experienced team members so you will be ready.

Please contact our Hospitality Team Coordinator, Susan Moll by email or see her on a Sunday at church.

Would you like to join the team?  We would love to have you!!

What are you
grateful for?

We appreciate the lovely roses sent to us by our new Unity Urban Ministerial School Intern, Reverend Sandra Haase. Sandra is grateful for the opportunity to serve and get to know our community. She thanks the Board and Reverend Joy for accepting her into internship. We will all get to meet Reverend Sandra at Sunday service on August 12th.

Happy applause for the choir music last Sunday with solos by John Thomas and Jo Sieger. If you'd like to hear more beautiful music, plan to attend the benefit concert on July 28th with Steve Gunn, these musicians and more!

Thank you for the understanding and patience of our youth and their families last Sunday. We love our families and we give thanks in advance for the expanding energy of volunteers committed to being with our younger congregants on Sunday!

If you are grateful for something at ULV, send a message to the office: unitylv@rcn.com

We hold Ginny Stanglein and her family in our prayers as we honor the life of her father Raymond Swett. Ray wasn't usually at ULV for Sunday services but, until recently, he was a fixture at our fellowship events. We will miss his physical presence and we celebrate the new journey he begins beyond our sight. Service details will be announced later.
