Our work takes us to exciting places both here in Canada and all across the globe. In this newsletter you can read about some of our innovative projects in countries like Australia and the British Virgin Islands, while also learning about the innovative physical literacy and quality sport work being done by organizations like Tennis Canada.

Community Changemakers celebrate success at 2020 Sport for Life Canadian Summit

Sport for Life has named its Community Changemakers keynote panel for the 2020 Sport for Life Canadian Summit , bringing together three of the leading voices in the physical literacy and quality sport movements to speak on the theme of Celebrating Success.

Fabrice Vil of Pour 3 Points, Tanya Mruck of the MLSE Foundation, and Robert Bettauer of the Pacific Institute of Sport Excellence (PISE) will participate in a community engagement session that will highlight exciting developments while also looking to the future.

Bianca Andreescu wows Canadians, inspires young tennis players

The historic Grand Slam victory of 19-year-old Canadian Bianca Andreescu over tennis heavyweight Serena Williams at the US Open in September will long be remembered, and could serve as a catalyst for future generations of Canadian athletes to excel not only in tennis, but in all sports. As both a female multisport athlete and the daughter of an immigrant family from Romania, she stands as a shining example of what’s possible within an inclusive sporting context.

Physical literacy instructor program

The Physical Literacy Instructor Program is a blended e-learning and in-person training experience that provides the opportunity for an individual to become a recognized Physical Literacy Instructor. The purpose of the four training modules is to equip front-line physical activity workers with the ability to design and deliver quality programs which effectively enhance the development of physical literacy. 

Bringing physical literacy to the British Virigin Islands

Canadians have long been leading the way globally in many areas of sport and physical activity, such as establishing long-term development pathways, creating physical literacy opportunities and mobilizing coach education. As other countries rush to catch up, many of them looking to Canada as an example, Sport for Life has been approached by numerous countries including the British Virgin Islands (BVI) to share our knowledge.

E-learning course aims to improve communication

Communication is a critical component of any sport organization, and the way information is dispersed to volunteers can affect the success of the entire operation.

With the new e-learning course titled Effective Communication, available on our online campus, we aim to fine-tune your communication strategies so you can share knowledge and information in a streamlined way.

Appetite to Play webinar

Appetite to Play is a B.C. initiative that supports early years providers to promote healthy eating and physical activity in daycares, pre-schools, parent participation programs and other early years settings for children 0-5 years old.

Join Appetite to Play team members for a webinar to learn about in-depth program evaluation results, including reach, impact, successes and challenges, the program components and how you can get involved. Next steps for the sustainability of the program will also be covered.

Athletics Australia throws their weight behind PLAYBuilder

The  PLAYBuilder app  has made a global splash since being released last year.

Developed in Canada by Momentum IT Group and Sport for Life, it has become an integral part of sport and physical literacy organizations across North America. Now, thanks to a new partnership with Athletics Australia, it’s also being embraced Down Under. The curriculum app provides coaches and instructors with the tools and lesson plans they need while also giving them the opportunity to create and share their own.

Building Social Legacies: Through Mega, Major and Signature Sport Events

This resource provides the background and process for host committees, social agencies and governments to plan and deliver initiatives that leave social legacies. The resource defines social legacies, provides examples and introduces an eight-step framework for event hosts to use in planning and delivering social legacies.
