Origami Hosts 12th Annual Brain Injury Symposium
On Friday, June 22, Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center hosted their 12th Annual Brain Injury Symposium of Mid-Michigan. Each year Origami aims to enhance attendees knowledge of brain injury rehabilitation. This year they covered a variety of topics, including Alternative Treatments to Pain Management and Human Trafficking: Understanding Advocacy and Serving Survivors. Stay tuned, Origami will be announcing the date for their 2019 Brain Injury Symposium of Mid-Michigan later this summer. Team #ADAMSTRONG Raising awareness to Fight Melonoma
In September 2017, former Michigan Osteopathic Association board member Adam Hunt, DO, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma. As he began his battle against the disease, his friends and colleagues rallied to help. Staff and leadership at Covenant Emergency Care Center began a campaign to raise awareness that included "#ADAMSTRONG" wristbands and T-Shirts. The Residency program helped raise awareness as well.
"The support from my colleagues, friends and family has been nothing short of overwhelming," said Dr. Hunt.
This October the AdamStrong Team will participate in a 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for the AIM at Melanoma Foundation. The event features 14 teams competing in raising donations. You can be a part of the AdamStrong team by participating in the event or by donating online.

MDHHS Town Hall Meetings on MIHIP
The 2019 Mother Infant Health Improvement Plan (MIHIP) will replace the current Infant Mortality Reduction Plan, which will be sunsetting later this year. Throughout the development and implementation process of the MIHIP, the MDHHS will work closely with partners and communities to align efforts and share resources.
MDHHS and the Maternal Infant Strategy Group (MISG), in collaboration with regional partners, will be hosting Town Hall meetings to garner community input and support for the 2019-2022 Mother Infant Health Improvement Plan. The meetings will be held in 4 regions of the state, with invitations to anyone invested in improving the health of mothers and infants in Michigan. Goals for each meeting include introducing the plan, collecting feedback from the community to determine priorities and barriers to successful program implementation, and bridging community partners to work together to improve health outcomes.

The TRIAD Online for Summer 2018 theme is Passion for the Profession: The summer edition of the TRIAD Online features highlights from the 119th Annual Spring Scientific Convention, a "DO Spotlight" on Jim Sylvain, DO, and his work with the Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center.

Spartan Street Medicine hosts Street Medicine Founder
On July 9th, Spartan Street Medicine hosted a presentation from Dr. Jim Withers as he recounted his inspirations, revelations and his fight against homelessness.
For over 25 years Dr. Withers has delivered medical care to the homeless. What began as a learning opportunity turned into the Street Medicine Institute (SMI). Established in 2005 in Pittsburg, PA, Dr. Withers has created a model where doctors and students can perform "reality-based medicine."
The mutual benefits became apparent in communities as SMI would become a global leader in developing the field and practice of Street Medicine and has helped cultivate or improve Street Medicine programs in over 85 cities located in 15 countries across 5 continents. His efforts have been recognized by many, including CNN featuring Dr. Withers in the CNN Heroes series.
Spartan Street Medicine is one of the programs that has grown out of the Street Medicine Institute. Working in the greater Lansing area, the program utilizes students from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM).
"The Spartan Street Medicine team is incredibly thankful to Dr. Withers for visiting our campus and "inoculating" all of us with the idealism that drives him to this day," said Spartan Street Medicine Co-Founder Brianne Feldpausch.
