"We are thrilled that this new structure will create a physical hub for the theories and ideas that evolve through dialogue, discussion and reinterpretation with partners on and off campus," said Division of Arts and Humanities dean Cristina Della Coletta for the groundbreaking of the North Torrey Pines Living and Learning Neighborhood. The new location is the future home of the division, the Institute of Arts and Humanities and the departments of History, Literature and Philosophy.

At the opening dinner for the 2018 PATH Summer Academy, Division of Arts and Humanities dean Cristina Della Coletta welcomed students to the PATH program.

The winning submission in this year's Department of Visual Arts Adam Douglas Kamil Media Awards is an experimental narrative that focuses on urban landscapes, the environment and memory.

The Department of Philosophy's latest Ethics in the Public Sphere distinguished lecture series brought a timely discussion to the larger San Diego community.


Through the Institute of Arts and Humanities, undergraduates from the departments of Literature and History explored the Library archives to present exhibits on Tijuana tourism and a South Pacific expedition .


Department of History graduate student Alina Mendez was recognized with a Chancellor's Dissertation Medal for her research. Mendez was also selected to receive the Graduate Dean's Fellowship Award for Humanistic Studies.

Growing opportunities in art with the San Diego Unified School District

Top Drama School for Acting

For its annual list of top drama MFA programs, The Hollywood Reporter ranked Theatre and Dance #4,  the highest-ranked program on the West Coast.


Literature alum Julia Dixon Evans appeared on KPBS Midday Edition for her new novel, "How to Set Yourself on Fire," before an extensive book tour.

Using Sounds of the Sea

Music professor Lei Liang and his students are using the sounds of snapping shrimp and grunting fish to compose ocean-inspired music concerts, the Union-Tribune reports.
