Certification: Progressive Autonomy in Educating Under Supervision
Mary Stewart Hall, Chair
Certification Commission
Do you have a CEC in your center? If you said yes, then you need to see this!

Changes in the certification process have brought about a new understanding of the progressive nature of a CEC's journey towards independent supervision.

During Phase I, the training educator (National Faculty) must maintain a presence in the room with the CEC at all times.

Updates from the Accreditation Commission
Wayne Maberry, Chair
Accreditation  Commission
The Accreditation Commission would like to thank all of the centers for their hard work and to offer congratulations to those centers who successfully completed their Ten-Year Reviews and to those who achieved accredited status. In accordance with commission policies, the Commission Action Reports (CARs) will be uploaded into BoardEffect no later than June 9, thirty (30) days after the conclusion of the meeting. Centers are encouraged to check the BoardEffect site because CARs will no longer be mailed. A complete list of commission actions will be posted on the ACPE website within the same time frame.

Accreditation Work Announces Timeline
John Pumphrey, C hair
Accreditation Work Group
The Accreditation Work Group had very productive dialogs with both the Board of Directors and the Accreditation Commission earlier this month as part of the leadership meetings. The topics focused on the approval of the new standards, which were reviewed and revised based on the feedback from the membership, a broad framework for the accreditation cycle, and a timeline for implementation. Information will be forthcoming to the membership about the framework, but for now we wanted to share a few details about the general approach to accreditation and anticipated timeline for implementation, as we know that centers look ahead to the year of their upcoming reviews.

Weekly Highlights
Last week, devastating floods hit both Maryland and North Carolina. The week prior to these events, the New York Times ran a graphic that shows how storms and other natural disasters have intensified over the last five years. The climate is changing in ways that may soon make the insurance industry a leading advocate for addressing its impact. If you've ever experienced a flood, you know how devastating and ongoing its effects can be. We offer the following poem by Tiffany Melanson in solidarity with our colleagues and those they serve who have been effected by these storms: The Myth of the Flood.

CPE Intern
Homily - Monday of the Twenty-Third Week of Ordinary Time

"You've had enough suffering. Your goal should be to find joy." It was the mid-unit review for my CPE two summers ago at the Children's Hospital in San Antonio. We interns were going around the table reading our mid-unit reports out loud and asking the group for feedback. I had had a rough first month-a couple of deaths, some cases of child abuse, many broken families-and somehow I got it in my head that God was inviting me to work even harder and go deeper into these difficult experiences.

Many of you may already be familiar with Sir Ken Robinson's Ted Talks. This one speaks to the work that our educators do every day around the world. Allow yourself 20 minutes of inspiration:

* Núr - Bahá'í
The beginning of the fifth month of the Bahá'í year, meaning "light."

Friday, June 8
* Jum'at al-Wadā [Farewell Friday] - Islam
As the last Friday in the month of Ramadān and the Friday immediately preceding Eid al-Fitr, this day is not a festival day, but it is still considered special by many Muslims.

* Sacred Heart - Christianity [Roman Catholic]
A devotional feast during which Catholic Christians reflect on God's compassionate love, symbolized by Christ's heart.

Saturday, June 9
* Laylat al-Qadr [Night of Power or Destiny] - Islam
A festival commemorating the first revelation of the Qur'ān to the Prophet Muhammad in 610 C.E., at the age of forty. Often fixed as the 27th day of the Islamic month of Ramadān, Sunnis may also observe it on the 21st, 23rd, 25th or 29th. Shi'ites observe it on the 19th, 21st or 23rd of Ramadān.
