Theodore Jojola, UNM Distinguished Professor and Regents' Professor in the Community and Regional Planning Program, School of Architecture and Planning, will present a talk on community, identity, and resilience on June 16 at 2 pm in the NHCC Library. Since time immemorial, people have attached their identities to the places where they have settled. Community embodies the intersection of people and the natural resources that sustain them. That relationship is expressed by their worldview, which describes their social and spiritual attachment to place. Jojola will draw from these relationships to show examples of how communities have met the challenges they have faced. In addition to highlighting NM Indigenous communities that have persevered in time and space, he will examine contemporary examples of such place-making as demonstrated in the histories of the Albuquerque Indian School and the Bataan Death March.

This month's Salud y Sabor will focus on Local Herbs/Yerbas on June 21 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Bring your family to this free evening of food, art, and entertainment and enjoy cooking demonstrations, fun art activities, health screenings, and live entertainment.
