Join Cranbrook astronomers and members of the Warren Astronomical Society to celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing, FREE with general museum admission .

Learn about the geology of the moon, explore the moon in Virtual Reality, discover details about the Apollo missions, visit the Cranbrook Observatory, and try to observe the moon during the day! Science Corner
For the first time, signs of the color blue have been found in a fossil. This proves that modern, blue-colored birds, and an ancient bird, both have similar color-creating microstructures. That ancient bird is Eocoracias brachyptera, a tree-dwelling bird that lived over 48 million years ago, and link to their modern relatives, kingfishers and kookaburras. To come to this conclusion, researchers examined 72 feather samples from modern birds of many different colors and 12 samples of organic material carefully collected from the fossilized E. brachyptera, analyzing the shape and size of their pigment-containing cellular structures.
