“Ask the Expert” Corner – Richard Argentieri, Vice President of Sales at Independent Health

Q: If I haven’t reached my deductible, do I need to pay my provider for the services I receive?
Yes, while in the deductible stage, you are responsible for paying your health care providers directly for the medical services you receive. Your provider can bill you for the total cost of the service, which is based on your insurer’s contracted rate. However, since preventive care services and screenings are usually covered in full when performed by an in-network participating provider, there is no need to worry about paying for things like an annual physical exam, mammogram, colonoscopies, immunizations and well-child visits.
