Spring Harbor Team Wins
National African American History Academic Challenge

For the second consecutive year, a team representing the Madison Chapter of the 100 Black Men of Madison was crowned National Champion of the African American History Academic Challenge at the recently conducted 32
nd Annual Conference of the 100 Black Men of America.
The Spring Harbor Middle School team composed of Genesis Woodards, Paul Eichoff and Simon Kellum defeated the team representing the 100 Black Men of Omaha in the Championship round.
The winning team was coached by Sara Leuthold, 8th Grade U.S. History Teacher at Spring Harbor Middle School and mentored by Emmanuel Scarborough.
In the 24 year history of the National 100 Black Men of America African American Academic Challenge, a team representing the 100 Black Men of Madison has been crowned National Champions, seven times and three times since 2012.
This National Recognition is truly a remarkable accomplishment.
It is an outcome of the hard work and dedication by truly gifted students, amazing instruction and preparation by a master educator and the tireless energy and direction provided by a dedicated mentor.

Sun Prairie High School Students
Present Health Solution to Walmart
at Annual Conference
Sun Prairie High School Students Aisha Tunkara and Dacara Cooper presented their winning healthcare solution to Tony Waller, Senior Director Walmart Corporate Affairs at the recently held 32
nd Annual Conference of the 100 Black Men of America, 16 June at the Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida.
The Nutrition Education & Community Awareness solution devised by Aisha and Dacara involved a
Walk/Fun Run activity to increase healthy living and lifestyles in the Sun Prairie and Greater Madison communities.
Additionally, the proposed activity will promote social cohesion, community building and a positive environment.
Plans are underway to execute the walk/run event during the 2018 - 2019 school year and possibly involve awareness to
diseases that affect the American American Community such as Sickle Cell Anemia and Prostate Cancer.

Tunkara, Latrell Mancil and Chapter Founder Enis Ragland pose with Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Rogers (University of Nebraska) at the recently conducted Annual Conference of the 100 Black Men of America.
Mr. Rogers currently serves as the President of the 100 Black Men of Omaha. President Rogers was the 1972 recipient of the Heisman Trophy which is awarded to the most outstanding collegiate football player of that year. The Heisman Trophy is the most prestigious award of college football.

"Solutions from Those with the Most to Lose" Student Essay Contest
Habitually, assessments and policy development do not involve actual commentary from all that were or will be affected. As consequence, skewed and incomplete conclusions repeatedly serve as an appalling platform to guide decisions and achieve rational outcomes.
In an effort to provide and stimulate voice to those who are most affected by the actions of others, the 100 Black Men of Madison initiates, the youth essay contest, "Solutions From Those With The Most To Lose."
Students are asked to choose one stated topic, see below and write an essay of at least 1,000 words (but should not to exceed 1,250).
This contest begin 10 May and close
14 September. Entries will be submitted on line. And all area high school and middle school students are eligible.
The top essays from each high school will advance to the final round of judging that will determine 1st through 3rd place, and honorable mentions. Essays must be the original work of the submitting student.
All decisions of the judges are final.
Cash awards of $500 for first place, $400 for second place, $300 for third place and $100 for honorable mentions and trophies will bestowed at the 100 Scholar's Gala, 21 September, at the Madison Club, Madison, Wisconsin.
All submitted essays will become the property of the 100 Black Men of Madison, Inc. and will not be returned. Selected essays will be published in the Journal, "Solutions From Those With The Most To Lose."

Annual Golf Outing: "Fun With a Purpose"
The 100 Black Men of Madison Annual Golf Outing is one of our signature fundraising events for 2018. The funds from this event will help support all of the programs and services we provide to area youth such as The African American History Challenge Bowl, Project SOAR/Youth Mentoring Programs, The Annual Back to School Celebration and various Health and Wellness initiatives.
The Golf Outing format is a four-person best ball scramble. Prizes and awards will be given for the low-gross teams, longest drive, closest to the pin, Putting Contest, Hole-in-one opportunities to win a new automobile or motorcycle, and more. Individuals and teams are welcome!
Non-golfers and/or supporters are also invited to attend and support this effort at the dinner portion of this event.

Back To School Celebration at Madison College (Truax Campus)
The 24th Annual Back To School Celebration will be held from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon at Madison College - Truax Campus (1701 Wright Street, Madison, WI
) Saturday, 11 August 2018.
Our goal is to ensure a wonderful & meaningful start of the 2018 - 2019 school year for all students of our community.
Over the past 23 years, the 100 Black Men of Madison has provided more than 35,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to area youth.
During 2018, the Back to School Celebration will endeavor to provide school supplies and this year, "vital services and exposures" to more than two (2000) thousand economically disadvantaged youth and their families.
Last year, more than 200 individuals representing 34 partner organizations as well as numerous individuals of our Community assisted members of the 100 Black Men of Madison in Back To School Celebration and the preparatory, Backpack Stuffing Party.

The
event
was founded more than 17 years ago by a group of business and civic leaders to promote and inspire youngsters to pursue careers in business, and to foster support for diversity and inclusion in the business community. The event's list of honorary chairs features some of Wisconsin's most prominent professionals in business, government, and civic affairs. Each year, its ranks have grown with individuals that bring outstanding attributes and commitments to the community.
Over the past 17 years, the Fellowship Open has contributed more than $1.8 million to youth organizations involving more than 80 organizations throughout Wisconsin.
The Fellowship Open's principal objective is to work and support organizations which are having a meaningful and demonstrable difference on the lives of the youngsters.

100 Scholars Gala

The Annual 100 Scholars Gala of the 100 Black Men of Madison will be staged Friday, 21 September at the Madison Club, Madison, Wisconsin.
This premier event will feature a social hour, elegant cuisine, a raffle, an auction, and introduction of the 2018 Class of 100 Scholars.
The net proceeds from this event will be used to fund the youth programing efforts of the 100 Black Men of Madison.

77th Assembly District Candidate Forum
In cooperation with vital grass root Community Organizations, the 100 Black Men of Madison will stage a Candidate Forum,
Tuesday, 31 July involving those that seek to represent the 77th Assembly District.
Candidates Sheila Stubbs, Shabnam Lofti, John Imes and Mark Garthwaite have agreed to participate.
The
5:30 PM event will be held at the
Atrium Community Room at the Village on Park,
2300 S. Park Street, Madison, Wisconsin.
All are welcome to attend.
