If it's one thing Jim Harte and Simon Olney have learned over the eight years of owning a brewery is that you have to adapt. Continuously. This includes opening the
Ol' Republic Roadhouse located at the Old 5-Mile House on Highway 20 heading towards Truckee. Harte and Olney admit that they missed the mark creating the Roadhouse menu. "We had a concept we thought was right, amazing food...yes, but it just ended up not being the right food for a Roadhouse", says Olney.
Harte and Olney have worked diligently in making significant changes to the Roadhouse. They restyled the menu with a strong emphasis on comfort foods and price. Burgers and pizzas are now more prominent on the menu, as well as an excellent selection of smoked meat sandwiches. This current menu is transitional with a new more expanded menu soon to be launched that will include additional vegetarian and fish options. "One regret is that we didn't make the necessary changes sooner. We intended the Roadhouse to be a warm, comfortable experience with food that our brewery customers have 'gently' suggested over the years", says Harte, "I think we are very close to getting it perfected".
