Mayor Byron W. Brown and the City of Buffalo's Operation Clean Sweep Initiative brings together city, state and federal partners - in conjunction with local health and human services providers and community groups - to eliminate blight and further reduce crime to record lows while providing needed social services. Clean Sweep is organized and implemented through a three-pronged approach: Beautification and Restoration, Outreach and Education, and Codes and Law Enforcement. Over a six-month period, teams descend on target neighborhoods in all nine Council Districts, on a rotating basis each week.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
- Boarding up abandoned structures
- Removing graffiti and debris
- Code enforcement
- Community policing
- Trimming trees
- Repairing signs
- Going door-to-door offering governmental, employment and health & human services information
GBUAHN has been a long-standing partner with this initiative ensuring that Buffalo residence has the health insurance and medical support they need to navigate through this complex medical world.
