Volunteer Volunteer Needs

Stamp Out Hunger Publicity

There are two great ways you can help increase the visibility of the May 12 Stamp out Hunger food drive. Email volunteer4afac@afac.org for these opportunities.

Leafleting
The first is easy, flexible, family-friendly and provides some steps for your pedometer. Take a stack of at least 100 flyers and deliver them to your neighbors (single family homes in Arlington). Take more if you're feeling ambitious. We ask that this happens between 4/28-5/10. Great for groups or families or teens needing service hours. We estimate 100 flyers takes less than two hours.

Street Signs
Put up street signs on busy streets of Arlington that have grassy medians. We'll try to honor requests for routes, but we do have some that we know need coverage. You'll need to pick up the signs no later than May 5. Signs are placed on Sunday, May 6 (not earlier) and removed on Sunday, May 13 (not later). Signs need to be returned to AFAC no later than May 19. You'd be responsible for approximately 5-10 signs depending upon location. This is a good job for licensed drivers ages 18+. We also recommend you work with a friend. This would take approximately one hour each Sunday.

90 Minutes of Help

We could use consistent help (either once a week or once every other week) Tuesday-Thursday from 12:45-2:15 pm in assisting our social worker hour distributions. You'd help social workers and health care aides go through our distribution. We ask that you try it out a few times before commiting to a fixed time. We can always arrange for substitutions in the event of work obligations, vacations or illness. Sign up using our  online calendar.

Taste of Arlington
May 20

Taste of Arlington , Arlington's largest block party, will be held on Sunday, May 20. AFAC and several other local non-profits will be the charity beneficiaries of the event. AFAC is responsible for

recruiting over 90 volunteers to help with Restaurant Row & the clean-up shift. Duties could include supporting restaurant booths with their event operations, maintaining the water stations, and keeping the area clean.  Volunteers will receive 5 tasting tickets to use during the event & a t-shirt.  Sign up using this link.
PlotPlot Against Hunger

Growers Wanted

Will you be a Romeo for our Juliets? AFAC needs tomato seedlings for clients and donating gardens. We have special Juliet tomato seeds to distribute to growers. Juliets are a small crack-resistant, sweet, fast growing variety that produces well in our climate and is the preferred tomato at AFAC. For seeds,  contact Puwen at Puwen.Lee@afac.org.
