NOTE FROM PASTOR JOHN

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:17)

It is a blessing to serve at Hope! As pastor, I have the opportunity to be a part of many ministries that reach people in many different ways. Thank you for being the church and serving Him, proclaiming the name of Jesus in your words and your actions. I love the verse from Colossians 3:17 that reminds us that EVERYTHING we do can give glory to God! Awesome! Keep serving the Lord this summer as you also remember Jesus' words, "I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:20).

I hope to continue to see you this summer...in worship and as we serve the Lord together. We have some awesome opportunities to serve in tangible ways, at the "Faith and Family" event during "Street of Dreams," at the Royal Family Kids Camp, at the "Fun In The Park" event in Wilsonville, at the Mexico Mission Trip and in many more ways through Community of Hope. Thank you for your participation and prayers.

YOU are the church. Jesus loves you and welcomes you to BE the hands and feet of Jesus as you serve the Lord.

"Give 'em heaven!"

Together with you, serving our Lord,
Pastor John Foss

How long have you been a staff member at COH?
I have been a member of Community of Hope since 1995 and
a staff member since March 2018

Tell us in a few sentences what you most enjoy about your
work as part of the COH staff serving our church:
One of my favorite things about my job here at church is hanging out with the families and their wonderful kids. We have a faithful volunteer community who care deeply about the future of this ministry and the spiritual lives of our children. Nothing feels better than a smile, laugh, or hug on Sunday mornings from the kids who feel safe and loved in God's House!

As we move forward in Children's Ministry, I feel God is leading me into new ideas and adventures with our current and future families. On top of extending my successful day camps to include more school districts, I would love to freshen up some of the family fellowship time such as day trips, new special event evenings, and Sunday morning activities beyond Sunday School, all with a spiritual theme. God has provided a unique opportunity with our possible growth and placed several ideas on my heart to reach out to families who might need a place like Community of Hope in their lives.

ADULT MINISTRIES

What a meeting!!

Sunday, June 23, our congregation met for our Mid-year Update. We had twice the number of participants that we needed! Not many churches can say that about their annual meetings.

Adult, Children and Youth Ministries will combine efforts this Fall to lead our  entire church family through the Bible over the school year 2019/2020. What a blessing this will be. As we prepare to do more outreach in our community and receive into our church family more members, how perfect that we all know what our Lord has said to us in His good book. I am so excited!! We will be using our own Bibles and a support book called "The Story", as we read our way through the Bible, together; children, youth and adults.

Here is a teaser quote to spur your interest in what we are planning; the author writes that in his churchless childhood his grandmother had given him a Bible and "It was a black leather King James Version of the Bible that sat on our family bookshelf in the hallway between our bedrooms. I remember on several occasions unzipping the Bible, lying on the floor, tucking the palms of my hands under my chin, and beginning to read with a simple faith that there was something in it I desperately needed to know. After fifteen minutes of giving it my full attention, I would close it, zip it up, and place it back on the shelf. I read it, but I didn't get it. I wanted to, but it just wasn't within my reach.

Maybe you feel the same way. You know the Bible is important. Like most people, "read through the Bible", is on your bucket list - things you want to accomplish before you "kick the bucket." It's right up there with climbing Mount Everest and jumping out of an airplane. For some, these two goals may feel more achievable than getting through the Bible. You are not alone. Forty-one percent of people who say they own at least four Bibles confess to never reading it."

This is one of the reasons we have chosen to take all of ourselves through the Bible in this coming school year! More information will follow.

Community Groups will be focusing on these materials, too! If you are interested in joining or starting a Community Group this year, please let me know. If you are a returning Community Group leader, please set aside August 25th following worship to plan for our groups for this Fall. Our Community Groups will restart for the school year on September 8th. It is going to be growing year and we want to walk with the Lord carefully as we plan for it. Pray for our leadership and members that are yet to be!
All of you BOBS and Catalyst NW supporters are probably aware of the latest
project we have done! Thank you for your support! Your donations of money, time and talent, have made it possible to do a desperately needed windows and siding project for Mr. Kierig at Oak Leaf Mobile Park. Pat Baker was, again, our Project Manager. Please, let Koko or Pat know if you can would like to be part of our next project.

What a wonderful summer we are having; not too hot and not too cold! We have had delicious breakfasts and enjoyed the fellowship of our church family in the most precious ways. There are only 3 more opportunities to be part of a team that sponsors a breakfast. Talk to Koko if you would like to be part of one of these teams.

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.

Be strong and courageous
Koko
