Community Updates
April Snow Storm - Winter Maintenance Update - April 17, 2017

To provide residents with an update, I have been advised of the following:

  • Rain warnings have ended but water safety continues to be a concern as snow/ice melts.
  • City crews are now salting and clearing sidewalks and bus stops which may take a few days.  Also they have started to salt residential roads.
  • The Windrow Clearing Program was extended and city crews will be clearing windrows on streets that were part of this year's program.
  • Work has begun on clearing priority park trails such as the Applewood Trail.  Once complete, crews will continue with other trails in the City.
  • Forestry crews continue to cleanup tree debris on City streets and boulevards. Parks staff are cleaning up debris in parks.
  • Residential roads will not be plowed unless requested by emergency services (police, fire and ambulance).
  • Please keep an eye on catch basins on your street and ensure they are clear. Call 311 if your catch basins are covered or blocked.
  • There are currently no power outages in Mississauga, as per Alectra's interactive map.

WEATHER AND SAFETY
  • Flood Watch continues for Mississauga. Water Safety warning is in effect.

Traffic Calming - Fieldgate Drive & Bough Beeches Blvd.

The City of Mississauga has recently begun implementing physical traffic calming measures in order to address local neighbourhood road safety issues in Mississauga.

Public Information Centres were held on March 20th and April 16th for residents in the Fieldgate Drive and Bough Beeches Blvd area as this is one of the areas staff are currently reviewing.

There is still an opportunity to provide your comments to staff by filling out the comment sheet below and e-mailing it by April 30th to:

Public Consultation on the Noise Mitigation Initiatives Engatement Plan

Residents have until April 20th to provide their feedback on the public consultation with NAV CANADA.  The GTAA  consulted on six ideas aimed at reducing noise impacts for residents around the Greater Toronto Area.

Residents can share their feedback by reviewing their website and submitting an online feedback form by clicking on:

The Six Ideas include: new flight paths for overnight flights, changes to the preferential runway system, and a summer weekend runway alternation program using our East/West runways.

Applewood Athletic Field Update

I have received many inquiries from residents regarding the athletic field at Applewood Heights Secondary School.  As this is a School Board issue on Peel District School lands, the City of Mississauga has no jurisdiction on this matter.

I am a true believer in keeping the community up to date on matters that may affect us all.  As such, I have repeatedly asked that a public meeting be held so the community has the opportunity to review what is being proposed and ask questions.   In the absence of such a meeting, I continue to encourage you to contact your elected official on the Peel District School Board for Ward 3, Sue Lawton at:

Information has been posted on the Applewood Heights Secondary School website.  Please click on the link below for information.
