Marking the 70th anniversary of U.S.-Indonesian diplomatic relations, Hudson Institute, the U.S.-Indonesia Society (USINDO), and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia will host a symposium to explore the history of the bilateral relationship, discuss future opportunities and challenges facing the world’s second and third largest democracies, and ways to enhance the relationship in the future.

In the morning session, experts, diplomats, and historians from both countries will discuss the profound and sometimes tumultuous early history of the bilateral relationship, which provides the foundation for the relationship between the two countries today. During lunch, there will be an update from policymakers on the current state of the growing U.S.-Indonesian Strategic Partnership. After lunch, an expert panel will engage in a Round Table discussion to consider ways to enhance the Strategic Partnership and the possible trajectory of the relationship.
