Celebrating 45 Years!
 
Forty-five years ago, in 1974, what is now AgeOptions was designated by the Illinois Department on Aging as the Suburban Cook County Area Agency on Aging. With our community partners, we have served nearly 5 million older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers since then.




AgeOptions Receives Falls Prevention 
Grant for Illinois 
 
AgeOptions is one of six agencies nationwide to receive a three-year evidence-based falls prevention program - sustainable systems grant from the Administration for Community Living. The grant, which totals $450,223, will build on the successes that Rush System for Health and its partners had with the first statewide ACL Falls Prevention Grant.


Community Volunteers Honored at
45th Annual Luncheon
 

AgeOptions honored 44 volunteers from throughout the Chicago area for their service and dedication to older adults in their communities at the 44th Annual Luncheon and Volunteer Recognition. BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois generously sponsored the event, which took place June 13 at the William Tell Holiday Inn in Countryside.
Avisery Medicare Fundamentals

This half-day, interactive workshop is great for professionals who would benefit from a basic understanding of healthcare options and resources available to older adults or for professionals who are new to the aging field.

  • What Medicare does not cover (and what Medicaid might)
  • Where to refer patients for Medicare counseling and other aging service

I'm pleased to be chairing Celebrating Connections, the 15th annual AgeOptions networking reception and silent auction. This year's event, like those that preceded it, promises to be a festive evening. Our more than 350 guests will have opportunities to connect with people who make a difference, provide leadership and contribute to the independence and health of those we serve.
Public Hearings Participants Cite Issues
And Obstacles Facing Older Adults


Social isolation, scams, health care, housing and transportation were among the issues participants in AgeOptions' annual public hearings cited as obstacles to living well in one's community.
More than 100 People Attend SMP's 
2019 Fraud Fair



Representatives of nine agencies took part in the annual 2019 Fraud Fair hosted by Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) in May. They provided the more than 100 older adults who visited the fair at the Southeast Atlas Regional Senior Center in Chicago with valuable information on how to protect, detect and report fraud.

   Diane Slezak Receives "60 over 60" Award


Dane Slezak, AgeOptions president and CEO, was one of 60 individuals over the age of 60 to be honored by the Celebrating Seniors Coalition. Each May the coalition honors inspirational community members during Celebrating Seniors Week, a celebration recognizing the vital role older individuals play in our lives.

Board of Directors Member Since 1989


Donna Moore
Donna Dunning Moore, a member of the AgeOptions Board of Directors since 1989, died on May 16 at the age of 81. Donna, who served two terms as Board Chair, is remembered as a strong supporter of AgeOptions who contributed her time and passion to the agency's work.
