LaWanda Fisher

LaWanda Fisher, from Lawrenceville, Virginia and a  Brunswick High School graduate, returned home after  experiencing a four-year college, choosing to continue her studies in what she describes as "the more supportive atmosphere at Southside Virginia Community College." In her time at SVCC, LaWanda earned an Associate of Applied Science in Human Services and a Career Studies Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling.

LaWanda is employed by The Improvement Association as its Program Manager of Parents as Teachers, a prenatal and early childhood home visiting program.  LaWanda is also a Certified Parent Educator and Reflective Supervision Coach and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Applied Behavioral Science from Ashford University.  Later this year, she is creating a non-profit mentoring program for parents as well as for boys aged 5-21.

LaWanda recently returned to SVCC for a day to serve on an alumni panel, sharing her experiences and urging students to take advantage of all opportunities offered by the College. She noted, "My experience at SVCC was awesome and inspiring.  They prepare you to be greater than average.  I felt I could go out into the world and do great things."
