Mack Memo ~ Parent Newsletter
10/26/2020
By Jennifer Smith, Principal

Dear Mack Families,

Special activities have been planned for the week to help foster a love for reading for our elementary students. We call it B.E.A.R week, which stands for "Be Excited About Reading." On Friday, we have Laurie Zundel as our guest author for a Zoom workshop with the students.

Laurie is an innovative educator and author. Her lifelong passion is to make learning fun and encourage children to discover their unique gifts and strengths, nurturing growth and self-esteem. Nothing brings her greater joy than seeing the face of a child light up while learning and discovering.

My Travel Friends merges her passion and love for life, children, travel, music, writing, and artistic education. Laurie uses different learning styles to build character and spread positive values. Her imaginative visuals make learning fun, and her original music makes it stick! Her books include Bonzo the Brave and Sophie’s Friends. Laurie and her husband Larry live in Seattle and enjoy life with their family of 5 daughters and 15 grandchildren. After Laurie’s presentation on Friday, she will be sending home an order form for anyone who wants to order one of her books.
We will close the week with Character Day on Friday. Students are encouraged to dress up to represent an appropriate character from a book or story and be prepared to share their character with the class. All costumes should be appropriate and not your child's Halloween costume. Suggestions for characters include appropriate storybook characters, Bible characters, biographical or historical figures. Scary characters, monsters, weapons or gore of any kind is not acceptable.

Our Reading Raffle begins today. A letter with detailed information was sent home last week with your child. If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher. If you need more raffle tickets, click here to access more. Students who turn in their raffle tickets will be eligible to win a $10 credit to either a scholastic book order or Barnes & Noble bookstore.

If I can be of any help to your family, please know that I am here to support you, our Mack families. You can reach me at jsmith3@bellevuechristian.org. Have a wonderful week!
Reminders & Announcements

NO SCHOOL

As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, 11/2. This is a day of professional development for our faculty.
Candy Collection for Operation Gratitude

We will once again be collecting extra Halloween candy for Operation Gratitude! Operation Gratitude sends Christmas care packages to our troops overseas and first responders, and they use this excess candy in the care packages. Students can drop off extra candy in their classrooms from 11/3 - 9. We also have a bin outside the front office. This is optional. In the past, we have found it is a great way for our students to experience spreading God’s love by sharing what they have with others.
Inclement Weather & Extra Masks

We encourage students to pack an extra set of clothes and an extra mask during the fall & winter months. Thank you!
