Volunteer Newsletter
October 2018
This month we hosted our annual Community Information Expo on September 10th. A total of 28 organizations participated and showcased some of their programs and fundraisers to community members. I had the pleasure of meeting some new residents to Blackfalds who are excited to be part of our thriving community, a few of which decided to sign up to join our already amazing volunteer network. If you belong to a community organization/group and you're interested in submitting 1-2 sentences that will be added to the newsletter (under 'Other Volunteer Opportunities') please note the submission deadline is the 24th of each month.

Stay tuned for details about changes to our volunteer program, thanks to our sponsorship from Telus.

On behalf of The Town of Blackfalds & After the Grind, I would like to take a moment to thank our volunteers who helped at the Community Warmth Fall Fundraiser. The gift of a brand new winter wear offers hope to both children and their parents, reminding them there are those in their community that care about their well-being and future. The new jacket, snow pants and boots offers a child both physical and emotional warmth. If you were unable to attend and would like to make a cash donation please stop by the Blackfalds FCSS office.

BE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY !
Volunteering offers vital assistance to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, therefore transforming both the lives of the people who volunteer and those who benefit.

“The Heart of a Volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the
Commitment to Make a Difference in the lives of others.” ―  DeAnn Hollis

As part of the volunteer recruitment process, we require your Volunteer Application form on file and a Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks to be conducted as part of the screening process. Because this is a requirement through the Town, there will be no charge to you. To download the application form click here .

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
Snow Angel Program ~ Winter Season
The Snow Angel Program is a volunteer program that supports Blackfalds residents who require assistance to clear their snowy driveway and/or walkway.

"Adopting" a drive/walkway is a fun and healthy way for all ages to be good neighbours, while contributing to improving the quality of life of others in the community. Those needing assistance can contact the Volunteer Programmer to be matched with a Snow Angel.

As a Snow Angel you are committed to the same resident throughout the season and may adopt more than one resident if desired. Volunteers who have been matched will receive a toque & collapsible shovel at the beginning of the season, which has been generously donated by Telus.
