October is Virginia Wine Month.  It's the prime time to sample the "local crush" at wineries across the commonwealth.  This is the 30 th year of the month-long celebration with festivals, events and a kaleidoscope of special activities. You'll find many listed in our October EVENTS.
 
Our Winery of the Month is Doukénie in Purcellville, just a few miles from Washington DC in Virginia's famed wine country. Visit Doukénie Winery and learn why it has been voted a Favorite Tasting Room multiple times by Wine Lovers.

OCTOBER IS VIRGINIA WINE MONTH

With more than 300 wineries surrounded by lavish scenery, breathtaking views, quaint small towns and monumental historic sites, Virginia is a wine destination unlike any other.  This month-long celebration is the perfect time to enjoy the local crush, to experience world-class wines while exploring our Commonwealth's stunning landscape, rich history, and fine dining.

Purcellville, Vir ginia

Located in Loudoun County, Doukenie Winery is just 30 miles from Washington D.C. in Virginia's famed wine country. The farm winery founded in 1983 boasts amazing views and beautiful grounds. It produces Bordeaux style wines, almost all of which are estate grown and produced on site under the professional direction of winemaker, Sebastien Marquet. Production consists of six white wines, nine red wines and one fruit wine.

October 6:  Chincoteague Island Oyster Festival 
Tom's Cove Park (Chincoteague)
It's oyster season with all manner of seafood, beer and entertainment.  Advance tickets.

Saudé Creek Vineyards (Lanexa)
Celebrate with friends from German Snack Shack, Scottish Pig, Aleworks and local band.
October 6:  Blue Ribbon Craft Beer Fest 
State Fair (Doswell)
Celebrating the booming independent craft beer industry with over 20 Virginia breweries.  
October 6:  Yorktown Wine Festival 
Riverwalk Landing (Yorktown)
Finest Virginia vino along with German and French wines.  Live music, great food.
 
 
October 6:  11th Annual Alpaca Day 
Three Fox Vineyards (Delaplane)
Pet the Alpacas of Middleburg. Bring a picnic, taste the wines, enjoy the music.
October 6:  Powhatan Festival of the Grape 
Powhatan Historic Courthouse Square (Powhatan)
Tastings by 30 wineries, craft beer, delicious foods and live music.

Tasting vintages of Pinotage with all available for purchase.  Food options.
October 6:  Virginia Craft Spirits Roadshow 
Belmont Farm Distillery (Culpeper)
Sample artisan spirits, wine cocktails, local brews and music by Steel Gray & Friends.
October 6-8:  Vines & Bines Fest with Bald Top Brewery 
Ducard Vineyards (Etlan)
Both beer and wine tastings at both sites plus music, food, tours and prizes.
