October Begins Hunger-Free Holidays!

Community Engagement Manager, Rita Turner (right) with staff from George's on the Town at their Breakfast Food Drive event!

During the months of October, November and December, The Caring Place holds its annual "Hunger-Free Holidays" Food Drive.  With YOUR help, we hope to collect 225,000 pounds of food by the end of the year for our neighbors in need.  Here's how you can make that happen:
  • Donate non-perishables! Bring items to our Donation drive through at 2000 Railroad Avenue.  It's open behind the building, Monday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Organize a Food Drive!  Your business, church, club, friends or neighborhood can make a bigger impact than you think!  If you'd like to borrow one of our blue barrels for your event, call David Earl at 512-943-0710 or email him at dearl@caringplacetx.org.
  • Donate Money!  We get it, it's a busy time, but if you have a few dollars to spare, we can put it to good use!  $1 can buy 3.5 pounds of food!  Every dollar brings us closer to our goal. Here's how to make a monetary donation:
      • Donate Online and designate the Food Pantry at THIS LINK.
      • Bring cash or checks to The Caring Place at 2000 Railroad Avenue and tell reception it's for the Food Pantry.
      • Mail checks to:
          • The Caring Place,
          • P.O. Box 1215, Georgetown, TX  78627
          • Designate the Food Pantry on the memo line

What's missing from the newsletter this month?  The Food Pantry list!  While we always need certain items, and you can find that list on our website HERE, we want you to also have fun giving and not panic about donating the right things!  Every donation gives us wonderful variety for our neighbors.  If you are having a Food Drive, here are a few ideas to make it more interesting!
  • Surprise your neighbors and go trick-or-treating for can goods.
  • Have a group donate all the items that remind them of a holiday dinner.
  • Try to donate items that start with every letter of the alphabet.
  • Donate items to make your favorite desserts.
  • See if you can bring in the most variety of cereal.
  • Ask your group to bring a variety of hygiene items, one of the most forgotten categories!
There are so many great ideas to make the giving season memorable.  Giving can be fun, creative and fulfilling too!

Seasonal Decorating at The Caring Place!

The Caring Place is known for the changing of the seasons.  Just like any other retail store, we have items that make an appearance for major holidays and all four seasons due to a community of generous givers.

Recently, customer, Barbara sent us photos of all her seasonal finds to prepare her home for fall.  You can find those to the right. ----->

While there is still fall decor trickling in and on display in our shops, her photos are a wise reminder to follow us on Facebook or Instagram so you always know when the new season's merchandise is going out or when it's going on sale!  That way, you too can create beautiful looks in your home.

Happy Fall Y'all!

* Insider Shopping Tip :  Our stores feature 10% off merchandise every Tuesday!

What About the Community Benefit?

When donating to and shopping for items at Second Helping and The Shops at The Caring Place, you are helping to fund programs and services that help our community.   Sales from both stores MORE than cover the operating costs at The Caring Place.  This means when you make a financial contribution, 100% of it directly impacts neighbors in need.  Where should you shop?

The Shops at The Caring Place
2000 Railroad Avenue | Monday-Saturday, 9am-4pm | Thursdays until 7pm

Second Helping
3700 Williams Drive | Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm

Since the holidays are right around the corner, we wanted to give you a great DIY gift idea.  Everyone loves a gift basket, but it's even better when the items in the basket are purchased at one of our thrift stores.  These baskets were made with items from our kitchen collection and home items while a sale was going on.  For less than $20 each, baskets of goodies worth far more were created for a lucky recipient this Christmas.  What DIY ideas do you have this holiday season?  Create it with things from our shops, then tag us on Instagram or Facebook!

Your item donations, shopping trips to our thrift stores, financial donations and volunteer time make a difference to people in our community.  This is just a glimpse of the impact you helped us make in the previous month.

Where You Shop Matters...
We have two thrift shops open to the public:

The Shops at The Caring Place
2000 Railroad Ave.
Georgetown, TX  78626
Second Helping
3700 Williams Dr.
Georgetown, TX  78628
Occasionally, we find some treasures that sell better in an ebay store.  Shop there too and know your purchases still support The Caring Place!

Love shopping on Amazon?  Use Amazon Smile and, at no additional cost to you, donations are made to The Caring Place.  Just choose The Caring Place as your non-profit
choice.
