Greetings!

The Nobel Prize for Chemistry was awarded today to three scientists "for the development of lithium-ion batteries." You can read all about it here , but for our purposes, we wanted to note that they are three different scientists working at three different times in three different locations, successively making strides towards the same goal. Each could only get so far on their own, their discoveries becoming the foundation on which the next scientist based their work, picking up where the other left off.

Looking ahead to the 100th anniversary next year of the 19th Amendment and the founding of the League of Women Voters, and reflecting on the success of our two fundraisers, it's a good reminder that we don't do this work alone. Even though the work isn't done, it's the progress that counts, the laying of the foundation for those that come next, who'll pick up where we've left off. We don't have to do it all; we just have to do our part— to empower voters and defend democracy.

Thank you to everyone who showed up for us this weekend, whether that was through donating baskets and time, testing your mettle in Civics Trivia, or spending time with community at Free Soup & Games Night. Endless gratitude to state Sen. Jo Comerford and GCC President Dr. Yves Salomon-Fernández for their stellar performances as our Civics Quizmasters, to all the generous folks at Hope & Olive who do such amazing work month after month, and to the local restaurants who donated their delicious soups, breads, and mac & cheese for our benefit!

Thank you all for all you do to shore up and build on our foundation. Your support matters and makes a difference every day.

In League,

Marie Gauthier, President
Nicole Moore, Vice President
Marge Michalski, Treasurer
Laura Luker, Secretary
Christine Turner, Director

P.S. We have a Legislative Coffee coming up on November 16 with state Representatives Natalie Blais and Paul Mark, and state Senators Jo Comerford and Adam Hinds; stay tuned for the details!
