Dear Friend:
In my first districtwide newsletter, I included a survey for constituents to select their top three issues for me prioritize. This week, I submitted an
Op-Ed
in local papers throughout the 37th Senate District reviewing the results from over 200 responses and ways I am working with my colleagues to address these concerns. Results of the survey are available here and in the section below.
On October 2nd, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill I sponsored,
S.8582/A.398A
. The bill creates the NYS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (A.L.S.) Research & Education Fund, and it provides a convenient way for people to contribute to the fund through a check-off box on the corporate and personal income tax forms. Read more about this new law in the section below.
As always, if there is a concern you think my office can help you with, please don't hesitate to call us at 914-934-5250.
Warm regards,
Shelley B. Mayer
New York State Senator
37th District

ESTABLISHING THE NYS ALS RESEARCH
&
EDUCATION FUND
|
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, has been identified for 150 years, but there is still no known cure, treatment, or cause. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons in the brain and the spinal cord. Those diagnosed with ALS die within two to five years after diagnosis.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law S.8582/A.398A creating the NYS ALS Research and Education Fund. The new law also creates a convenient way for people to donate to the fund directly from their corporate and personal income tax forms. My hope is that this fund will contribute to breakthroughs in research and improve the lives of those living with ALS.
