October 2, 2018
 Greetings!
Happy Tuesday!
What a big, beautiful worship time we had on Sunday! I'm still reliving the joy of it!

Our new acolytes were dedicated (19 new children to lead us into worship!) and our third graders received the most precious gift our church could give them, God's love story for us all as written in a Bible of their own, inscribed with their names.

If you missed it- or if your kids would like to watch footage of themselves receiving their Bibles or acolyte crosses - you can still find it here .

I'm so thankful for each of our children and the many ways they contribute to life at First Baptist!

See you at church!

Love,
Becky

Artwork To Share
Thank you, Olivia Holder, for sharing your artwork!

It's so fun to feature your child's artwork on the cover of the Sunday Order of Worship for Children!

It's a great way for your child to keep their hands busy during worship while their ears are listening!

Here are some suggestions you can give them of what to draw:
*Draw yourself in your favorite part of our church
*Draw your favorite Bible story
*Draw what you imagine God looks like
*Draw your family at church
*Draw your favorite part of God's creation
*Illustrate a truth about God- what God is like, who God loves, what is special about God
*Draw what it means to be like Jesus
*Draw yourself serving others
*Draw your favorite thing to do at church

Your child can give me the art after worship, put it in my white mailbox outside my office door, or leave it in their worship bag where it is easy to find. (Not tucked in the pad of paper, please. I might miss it!)

Children's Sabbath, October 14
Can you believe that some of these babies from Children's Sabbath not so long ago will now be leading our service?

They will be!
Our 5th graders will be speaking and our children's choirs will be singing and God will be showing up, as God always does!

It's going to be a joyful time! I hope you can join us!

Fifth grade speakers will practice in the sanctuary on Saturday, October 13, 9 am-10:30.

Laps for Lula-- and a Bank for Your Child
Tomorrow night, our 1st-5th graders will meet on the  bridge  between the Fellowship Hall and the AYMC at  5:30 . This is our special "Laps for Lula" night, which the children love every year!

They will review who Lula was and why we collect the offering, receive their Lula Whilden Offering banks, and run laps to earn money to kick-start their offering collection. Their offering collection culminates on Sunday, December 16 when they process during morning worship to share their offerings under the Chrismon tree. If your child won't be at church tomorrow night, we will also have the banks available on upcoming Sundays and Wednesdays.

Children can run in comfortable shoes or barefoot.

We look forward to seeing your child tomorrow at 5:30 on the bridge. We will leave the bridge by 6:10 to walk to
choir rooms. If your child is not staying for choir, please let us know at drop off and meet us at the bridge by 6:10.

Contact Laura Stout or Shanda LaForge with any questions. :)
Beautiful Singing, Children's Choirs!
Our Melody and Harmony choirs sang so beautifully Sunday! Thank you, choirs!

Be sure to take note (hahaha) of two very important dates for your calendar, via this excerpt from a note you received from Priscilla if your child attends choir.

1. Children's Sabbath will be October 14. This is always such a special service where the children lead almost every aspect of the service. All of the children's Choirs will sing at this service except for the 3 year olds. I will send more information as we get closer.   PLEASE make every effort to bring your child so that he/she will feel prepared .

  1. Children's Choir Christmas program. We will be having this on a Wednesday evening this year - Wednesday, December 12 during the regular Midweek time. All of the Children's Choirs will sing for this (including the 3 year olds). We are planning to present "Christmas Around the World" this year. If you are able to get or create an outfit for your child that represents a different country, that would be so great! Please do not let this cause you any stress - American Christmas dress is fine too! But it would be so nice if some of the children are able to wear something that represents another country. (The 3 year olds will wear their traditional Angel Choir angel costumes as they sing for the prelude to the program.) Again, I will email more information about this as we get closer.

Thank you again for sharing your wonderful children with us!
It's Time to Reserve Your 4th and 5th Grader's Spot for Discipleship Class
asst-wooden-crosses.jpg
Each fall we offer a two Sunday Discipleship class to our fourth and fifth graders. This year our fourth grade group is so big that we'll also offer a spring class. (Class size is limited to 12 children per session.)

The purpose of these classes is to encourage our children to question and begin to understand some of the basics of our faith heritage. What does it mean to be a Christian? What happens when you're baptized? What is involved in church membership? No one is pushed into making a profession of faith, but all are encouraged to begin the journey toward a life of following Jesus Christ.

Our class this fall happens November 11 and November 18, from 11:30-2, and includes lunch.

Children must be registered ahead of time to attend so that we can arrange to have all materials ready and plenty for lunch. The last day to register is Wednesday, November 7. You may register by emailing me (Becky) here . Feel free to contact me with any questions.
