Turn discarded books into works of art during this fun upcycle event. For grades 6-8.

Papermaking with SCARCE
Thursday, August 2 | 3-4 pm
Mimic the process of industrial recycled papermaking by using your own energy to make recycled paper you can take home and decorate. For kids in grades 6-8. Reserve your spot.
New Book Spotlight

The Mortification of Fovea Munson

Fovea Munson is nobody's Igor. True, her parents own a cadaver lab where they perform surgeries on dead bodies. And yes, that makes her gross by association, at least according to everyone in seventh grade. And sure, Fovea's stuck working at the lab now that her summer camp plans have fallen through. But she is by no means Dr. Frankenstein's snuffling assistant!

That is, until three disembodied heads, left to thaw in the wet lab, start talking. To her. Out loud.

What seems like a nightmare, or bizarre hallucination, is not. Fovea is somebody's Igor, all right. Three somebodies, actually. And they need a favor.

With a madcap sense of humor and a lot of heart (not to mention other body parts), this is a story about finding oneself, finding one's friends, and embracing the moment. Check out The Mortification of Fovea Munson.

Mid-Lit: Peer Book Reviews

My name is Lance and I reviewed The Novice by Taran Matharu.

It is a very interesting book. It is very much like the book Eragon in that it is in a medieval era and it is a story about an orphan who learns that he has the ability to summon demons. He must leave his home town and go to an academy where he can learn how to harness his abilities and join the war as a battle mage.

Any reader who enjoys a good, well-written fantasy novel would enjoy this book. I give it four stars. Check out The Novice.
A LOOK BACK

In early June, the library held an After-Hours Nerf War just for middle schoolers -- and it was a blast!

The library closed at 5 pm but reopened at 6 pm to host 20 middle schoolers to battle it out among the books with their own Nerf guns. For the next year, we'll be finding Nerf darts in all sorts of nooks and crannies!

Middle school volunteering is well underway and we have over 30 volunteers signed up for the summer! As part of the application process, middle schoolers were asked why they want to volunteer. Here were some of their answers:
  • I like volunteer work and helping my community.
  • I would like to develop better leadership skills.
  • I would like to meet some new people.
  • I want to learn how to use different tools in the library.
  • I love reading and books.
