Principal's Message
Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs.”
Stephen Covey

Dear Families,

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend.

It was wonderful today to celebrate our first All School Mass led by the 8th grade. They embraced our theme of inspire by reflecting on who or what inspires them. These reflections were then placed on the altar. Thank you 8th grade for your leadership and thank you to our amazing choir that led us in song.
Safe Environment: The recent news on sexual abuse in the Catholic church is unnerving. Here at SPN, we want to reassure you that the safety of your children is our utmost priority. Through our Safe Environment program, all adults, including teachers and staff, who interact with our students are required to complete the LiveScan fingerprinting and the online class at Virtus.org prior to volunteering. Please submit a proof or certification of completion.T he safe environment certification is valid for three years . Contact Mr. Carter to check if your certification is up-to-date. Please read this article from Bishop Barber published in the Catholic Voice regarding the recent Church scandal.
TK and K: This week, we were joined on the “big yard’ by our TK and K class. They were eager and excited to be on the big yard. They began their regular full day schedule and are ready to learn! The train table and sand table are now open for fun!
Picture Day: Do not forget that picture day is tomorrow, September 6th. Students are to wear their white uniform shirt with the blue uniform sweatshirt or sweater. Parents may order online at kurtburton.net or use the order form from today's family envelope.

Family Bingo: Come support the 8th grade for a night of fun! Dinner and bingo will be hosted in O’Brien Hall on Friday, September 14th at 6:00pm. Hope to see you there. Bring your friends! Scroll down to see the flier.

MUSE Band: Grades 4rd - 8th grade have the opportunity to participate in MUSE band, which is held after school on Thursdays. Please see attached flier to register.

Parent Ed Night: P lease mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 18 at 7:00pm and attend our first Parent Ed Night of the year. SPN has partnered with Being Adept, a Bay Area non-profit group, to provide our children with an age appropriate drug and alcohol abuse program. Come learn what and how the program will work. RSVP to this event.

Zones of Regulation: Today, the teachers begin their training on the Zones of Regulation. As mentioned at Back to School night, this program focuses on recognizing and identifying emotions as a means to use skills for self-regulation and successful social interactions. This will be the underlying basis for our social emotional program.

Music Class: Please know that our music teacher, Holly Shogbesan, underwent surgery this summer. Please read her note to families Please read her note to school families here.

PowerSchool Parent Portal: The parent portal for grades 6-8 is not available for access at this time. It will re-open on the week of the Parent-Teacher-Student conferences in October. 6th graders, new middle school students and parents will receive written instructions before the conference. This will give teachers ample time to enter grades so you can preview your child's academic development after six weeks of school.

Peace and Blessings for a wonderful week. Who will you inspire?

Girl Scouts Troop 33373
Thank you to Girl Scouts Troop 33373 (students Jennifer Proffitt and Meadow Mihok) for their wonderful service project which benefitted Saint Philip Neri. The girls spent the money they earned from selling cookies to purchase a tree, bench and paint supplies. Our TK and K love their buddy bench!

The Juul’s So Cool, Kids Smoke It In School
MARCH 26, 2018

The students wait eagerly for their teachers to turn their backs. That’s their cue to reach quietly for a small, sleek device they can easily conceal in their palms. It resembles a flash drive, but instead of computer files, this device stores nicotine. They take a hit, sucking on the device as they would a cigarette. Then, “they blow into their backpacks … or into their sweater when the teacher isn’t looking,” said Elijah Luna, 16, a sophomore at Vista del Lago High School in Folsom, Calif., about 30 miles east of Sacramento.
