Voting demonstration Oct. 9 at
Chemung County Board of Elections
The Chemung County Board of Elections will host a ballot-marking-device (BMD) demonstration at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at its office at 378 S. Main St., Elmira.

BMDs are designed to allow people with a variety of disabilities to vote independently. Unfortunately, many people are unaware they exist, and many more don't know how to use them.

During the event Oct. 9, people can ask questions of BOE staff and practice on the machines.

The event is open to the public. You do not have to be a Chemung County resident to participate. RSVPs are encouraged -- but not required -- by contacting John Zick at jzick@aimcil.com or (607) 962-8225, ext. 116.

There will be a DJ, food and games. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

This event is for young adults who live at home and have eligibility for services with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). The event is partly funded by OPWDD Family Support Services.

The cost to attend is $3. RSVP to Amanda Gitchell, AIM's OPWDD Youth Specialist, at agitchell@aimcil.com or (607) 962-8225, ext. 210 by Thursday, Oct. 25.
Wilson honored as Employee of the Month
Breanna Wilson has been selected as AIM's Employee of the Month for October.

Wilson is the manager of AIM's Navigator Program, which helps people enroll in health insurance coverage through the New York State of Health marketplace.

Wilson is a health insurance navigator herself, and also coordinates a team of five other navigators who assist consumers in Allegany, Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties.

"She is kind, respectful and knowledgeable, and also very helpful to consumers and staff," one person who nominated Wilson wrote. "She does very well at answering the consumers' questions and follows through on their problems to solve them."

Last year, AIM's Navigator Program enrolled approximately 4,000 people in health plans. The team is gearing up for the 2019 open enrollment for NY State of Health, which runs from November through January.
