PULSE@MassChallenge
, the state’s largest digital health accelerator, celebrated the completion of their second year by awarding the top participants in their current class with over $200,000 in prizes. Over 800 members of the region’s digital health community, including Massachusetts Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, gathered at the BIO International Convention at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to honor the 32 participants in the program.
Leuko
was awarded the top overall prize of $100,000 for improving quality of life and outcomes for chemotherapy patients, and others at risk of severe neutropenia, with the first non-invasive, finger-based white blood cell monitor.
During the awards celebration, MeHI joined with the Health Policy Commission to announce that the Commonwealth will double its annual commitment to PULSE, bringing the total investment to $340,000 over the next year. A part of the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative, this funding provides support for digital health start-ups, including mentoring, strategic partner matching, targeted education, co-working spaces, start-up accelerators, and other programming.
“We’ve invested over half a million dollars in PULSE since its inception and that investment pays off every year. We’re really excited about working with PULSE@MassChallenge for many years to come,” said Laurance Stuntz, Director of the Massachusetts eHealth Institute at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.
Through rigorous matchmaking, PULSE connects start-ups with industry champions that support entrepreneurs throughout the six-month-long program by facilitating key advisor introductions, pilots, research, and even investment opportunities. Start-ups that have participated in PULSE have raised more than $52M in funding, generated more than $13M in revenue, and grown their employee headcount by over 22 percent since participating in the program.

The Mass HIway Operations Team plans to migrate all HIway participants from the legacy HIway 1.0 to the new HIway 2.0 environment. The new HIway 2.0 Direct Messaging System will align the Mass HIway with modern interoperability standards, simplify the connection process, and improve the user experience. HIway 2.0 introduces many exciting new features and improvements, including DirectTrust Certification, a new provider directory, and single-use certificate support for all connection types.
The migrations will be completed over the course of a year, and the Mass HIway team will support healthcare organizations throughout the migration process to ensure minimal disruption. To assist in this effort, organizations should send updated contact information for key personnel to the Mass HIway at

Mass HIway 2018 Connection Requirement & Attestation Process
|
|
Mass HIway Regulations require that specified healthcare organizations connect to and use the Mass HIway, and many organization types have a 2018 connection requirement. The following types of organizations, as defined by the
Mass HIway Regulations
(101 CMR 20.00), have a 2018 HIway connection requirement:
- Medium and Large Medical Ambulatory Practices
- Large Community Health Centers (CHC)
- Acute Care Hospitals
Organizations listed above need to submit documentation (via an online
Attestation Form
) attesting to compliance with the 2018 HIway connection and use requirements, in accordance with the Mass HIway Regulations (101 CMR 20.00). The deadline is
July 1, 2018.
