Meaningful Use is Now Called
Promoting Interoperability
In late April, CMS announced a rebranding of the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, commonly referred to as Meaningful Use (MU), to the Medicaid Promoting Interoperability (PI) Program.
 
This newsletter incudes information about the Medicaid PI Program and resources to help eligible providers (EPs) receive incentive payments.
Medicaid Promoting Interoperability in 2018
The Medicaid PI Program will continue through 2021. In 2018, EPs have the option to attest to Modified Stage 2 or Stage 3. Basic guidelines for PI in 2018 follow.

Modified Stage 2 or Stage 3?
For reporting year 2018, providers have the option to attest to Modified Stage 2 or Stage 3. The objectives for Modified Stage 2 are the same as in 2017. Stage 3 is not mandatory until 2019. A comparison of the objectives for the two options follows.

 CMS has proposed changes for the Medicaid PI Program in 2019. We will share the changes once finalized.
