Pasadena strengthens fireworks ordinance ahead of the Fourth of July

"At their latest regular meeting, the Pasadena City Council unanimously approved modifications to the city's municipal code that will make property owners and tenants liable for any fireworks 'used, possessed, sold, or discharged on their property,' according to city staff's report. The strengthened ordinance aims to give the fire and police departments the ability to enforce the city's fireworks prohibition, even if the perpetrator is unable to be identified, as is typically the case." Pasadena Public Health Department launches marijuana health education campaign

The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) has launched a campaign to inform the public about the health effects of cannabis, commonly known as marijuana. The goal of the local educational campaign is to raise awareness about the health effects of cannabis use and the legal consequences of cannabis consumption while driving, which can impair driving abilities. The ads are focused on reaching youth and marijuana users, and will be placed inside Pasadena Transit buses. The current campaign was developed with input from several local youth organizations, including the Pasadena Cigarette Stompers, Day One, Pasadena Youth Council, PPHD Youth Advisory Board, and Rose City High School students. Pasadena Independent

"HERO is an innovative finance mechanism that empowers homeowners to make energy and efficiency improvements - such as replacing inefficient HVAC systems, installing new windows and doors, or going solar - and to pay for them over time through a voluntary, additional line item on their property taxes. HERO-financed home upgrades are projected to save homeowners over 40 million kilowatt-hours of electricity - and over $5 million on their electric bills - over the expected useful life of the products installed. That is enough energy to power over 4,000 homes for a full calendar year." Pasadena Now
