Peter Keck (N 181) captures 4th National title!

With crew Ben Porter, Peter Keck (N 181) will place his name on the NCSSA National Championship trophy for the fourth time (2018, 2014, 2005, 1997)! Keck has also stood on the first place podium twice before as a crew (1992 and 2004). At the Nationals, hosted by Delavan Lake Yacht Club, Peter battled tough competition consisting of 15 fleets and 63 boats which included four prior champions (Gluek, Skotarzak, Ed Eckert and Reilly). Keck and Porter were by far the most consistent sailors at this year's Nationals hosted by the Delavan Lake Yacht Club. Keck started out his domination of the field with a Race 1 win and then didn't take his foot off the pedal; finishing with a 2, 3, 2, 7. A well deserved DNS for race 6 allowed Peter and Ben the opportunity to watch the rest of the field fight it out. The next two spots were taken by boats from Lake Beulah. JP Porter (B 317) won both Race 2 and Race 4 to secure second overall. Top Master and third place overall was Kent Haeger (B 12). 2017's National Champion and Cedar Lake (WI) sailor Paul Reilly (A 14) finished 4th just ahead of Dave Keck (OO 99).   Top Master Kent Haeger (right) with crew Mike Greeson.

During the award ceremony, Kent rightfully proclaimed "Old guys rule!" as he collected Top Master honors. No one in the fleet finished the regatta better than Kent and Mike who scored a pair of deuces in the final two races!

Top Junior Michael Barr (right) - crew Nora Kierman and Maggie Probst

Lake Beulah's Michael Barr cemented his claim as the fastest junior skipper in the 2018 Nationals with a Race 5 victory!

Top Female Skipper Kate Klement with crew Robert and Neal Klement

Kate earned the title of fastest female skipper by finishing the regatta strong with a final 3 race average of 16 (11, 14 and 23)!

Congratulations to all the skippers and crew who participated and kept the mark roundings clean. Kudos to the RC who brought us all home safe and sound in six well placed courses. A grateful fleet salutes the hard working volunteers at the DLYC who made it all happen! The only question left is: will Keck and Porter return to Delavan in early October for the Worlds and a shot at the Delavan "Get Ranked 2.0 Triple Crown". Well sailed everyone and see you all at the next event!
