The Spring edition of In The Hills magazine features an in-depth article by Liz Beatty, entitled Reimagining Tourism: can sharing our way of life help sustain it?  Beatty talks about the importance of tourism in place building and honouring the way of life in rural communities, both in Headwaters and around the world. Her article begins by featuring some of our Headwaters local champions, and their role in showcasing the best of Headwaters in everything they do.

Winning streak continues for Headwaters Four-Season Visitors' Guide

On Wednesday, February 7th, 2018, at the Economic Developers' Council of Ontario Awards of Excellence in Toronto, Headwaters Tourism was once again recognized for exceptional work in marketing. For the third consecutive year, the Headwaters Four-Season Visitors' Guide has been recognized as the best publication in the province.

Town of Orangeville releases new economic development strategy 
 
Orangeville Council adopted a new Economic Development Strategy in March. The plan provides an overview of Orangeville based on the updated 2016 Census Canada data and sets out key economic development roles and actions to help move economic development forward over the next several years.

On April 27th, Join Mayor Allan Thompson and Council at Caledon's premier business networking event. The event will feature best-selling author and global leadership coach Dr. Lance Secretan, who will share insights and tips from his new book, The Bellweather Effect.

Call for artists for Utility Box Art Display Program  
 
The Town of Orangeville has announced the Call for Artists for the 2018 Utility Box Art Display program.  The program is open to all artists who reside in Dufferin County and the submission deadline is May 11.

Village of Bolton Heritage Conservation District now approved  
 
Caledon's first heritage conservation district, the Village of Bolton Heritage Conservation District (Bolton HCD), is now designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. This allows for new construction or alterations on properties in the District provided the neighbourhood's cultural heritage is conserved.

Town of Shelburne 2018 Economic Development Breakfast 
 
The Economic Development Committee will be hosting their annual Breakfast this year on Wednesday April 18th, 2018. This year's guest speaker is Pierre ClĂ©roux, Vice President, Research and Chief Economist BDC. Pierre will be providing an economic outlook for Canada and Ontario. During his presentation he will also touch on trends that all entrepreneurs should watch for in 2018; interest rate, NAFTA, technology, and the changes in the labour force.

Central Counties Tourism seeking nominations for Board of Directors

Central Counties Tourism is seeking nominations for two (2) Director-at-Large positions to be filled for three year terms running from June 2018 to June 2021.Central Counties Tourism was established and is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.  Central Counties is mandated to promote tourism assets and support product development on behalf of the Regional Municipality of York, Durham Region and Headwaters.

The SouthWestern Integrated Fibre Technology Inc. (SWIFT) recently published a position paper that gives prominence to Ontario's increasing digital divide and provides an evidence-based case for continued investment in equitable access to ultra-high-speed broadband networks. Revealed at the Tourism Issues Forum in February 2018, TIAO is proud to share messaging for Ontario's tourism industry ahead of the 2018 Provincial Election.  Including specific asks pertainint to strengthening tourism in Ontario, TIAO's summary of recommendations surrounds three critical areas:  PEOPLE, PRODUCT and PROMOTION.

EQUUS Canada Film Festival - exclusive Canadian tour stop!
     
For 2018 Headwaters Tourism is proud to announce that the Headwaters region of Ontario will be the first and only Canadian stop of the highly acclaimed EQUUS Film Festival. For three days in July 2018, the historic Town Hall Opera House in downtown Orangeville will serve as the mainstage venue for 19 films from across the world, celebrating the horse and the art of film-making.
 
This is a tremendous opportunity for businesses to partner with Headwaters Tourism on this exclusive Canadian event.

Headwaters Inspired: arts & culture project
     
Understanding the impact of arts and culture on our community, Dufferin County, the Town of Caledon and the Town of Erin are funding a project to develop an arts and culture framework in Headwaters.  The project will be managed and executed by Headwaters Tourism.

Call for participation:  We encourage all artisans, arts and culture businesses and organizations, and all heritage groups to help us build a robust database, by adding your information for inclusion in the database. This database of arts and culture assets will give exposure to each individual artist, group and business in our region and, when viewed as collective, will serve to raise the profile of the entire region as a destination for arts, culture and heritage. 
 
In memoriam

The region has recently lost two incredible and passionate community champions. On behalf of Headwaters Tourism, we extend our deepest sympathies to their family and friends. 
 
James Robert (Jim) Baufeldt passed away on the morning of April 4th, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family, just as he wished. He will be fondly remembered as the man who built Violet Hill. Recognized by many from both Mrs. Mitchell's and Granny Taught us How, Jim was a beloved father, respected entrepreneur, master millworker and dear friend.

Caledon Citizen Editor, Bill Rea
The Town of Caledon is mourning the death of longtime newspaper man, Bill Rea.
"It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of Bill Rea, Editor of the Caledon Citizen, a journalistic pillar of this community," Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson stated in a release Sunday evening (April 8). "For close to four decades Bill diligently and doggedly reported the news in King Township and Caledon. We extend condolences to his family and friends tonight."

The 12th annual Terroir Symposium (hosted at the Art Gallery of Ontario) promises to be a unique program of thought-leaders, visionaries and influencers sharing their insights, ideas and experiences on how to leverage what comes from our lands, lakes and oceans. 
 

 
Call for participation:  2018 Headwaters Horse Country Stable Tour
     
Based on participant feedback, and to better serve the needs of visitors, we will be modifying the format of our Headwaters Horse Country Stable Tour in 2018.
 
Rather than hosting the Stable Tour on just one weekend each year, we are inviting stables and equine businesses to open their doors to the public on the dates of their choice between April and December 2018. This will give businesses a better opportunity to tailor the visitor experience and showcase their equine operations when it makes most sense for them.
 
Open for a day, or multiple days throughout the year, and we'll promote the entire calendar of events throughout the year.
