Transportation Equity

The Department of For-Hire Vehicles is an innovative agency that is always seeking means to address transportation equity. We see the potential for expanding microtransit services to other parts of the District.

DC Microtransit is a pilot program that offers a shared ride service available in parts of Northwest and Northeast DC; covering Petworth, Park View, Howard University, LeDroit Park, Bloomingdale, Edgewood, Brookland, Woodridge and Fort Totten. We are closely studying the results and listening to feedback from riders about the service.

The Taxi-to-Rail (T2R) program has also been launched to respond to the needs of those who are East of the River. Many residents East of the River live more than a 15-minute walk to a Metro Station. T2R addresses the first-mile/last-mile problem of connecting people to public transit options. Our intent is to assist with fulfilling Mayor Bowser's request to all DC Government agencies to further improve the quality of life for District residents by reducing commute times. T2R users can get a ride to the following Metro Stations: Deanwood, Minnesota Avenue, Capitol Heights, Benning Road, Anacostia, Congress Heights, Southern Avenue, and Naylor Road. In addition, T2R can allow users to summon a ride from a station to any location East of the River.

DFHV is committed to overseeing a robust transportation ecosystem to meet the needs of our residents and visitors to have safe and reliable options to for-hire ride services.
