Articles of Note

Forbes, April 18, 2018:
As women continue to advance in the workplace, new questions emerge around why the gender gap persists. The tasks that women take on might be part of the problem. Though some industries inch towards equal pay on a job-by-job comparison, women still manage to be paid less or advance less quickly (if at all) in other sectors. One potential explanation for the stubborn pay gap is the leadership gap, or women not advancing into higher positions within organizations or industries. The number of women CEOs from major corporations in the United States is at an all time high of 32, but that's still only 6.4% of all major companies examined. Such a tiny figure of representation illustrates how far we have to go to close the leadership gap.
So what's really driving the gap in earning and leadership?

The Last Word

The New York Times, April 24, 2018:
In the corridors of American power, it can be as easy to find a man named John as it is to find a woman.
Fewer Republican senators are women than men named John - despite the fact that Johns represent 3.3 percent of the male population, while women represent 50.8 percent of the total population. Fewer Democratic governors are women than men named John. And fewer women directed the top-grossing 100 films last year than men named Michael and James combined.
