Our Children's Room construction project continues.

The second annual Stone Ridge Library Foundation Autumn Auction will be open through October 8th.  The online auction is a fundraiser to create a final boost to the ongoing construction project to improve the children's area of the library, with just a few items-remaining furnishings and overages left to fund.

 

Auction items range from vintage collectibles to household décor to treat yourself or give as a gift. Opening bids cover a broad range, with something for everyone's budget.

 

The Stone Ridge Library, thanks to private donations and fundraising events, as well as funding from foundations and state government grants, has been able, over the past ten years, to stabilize and restore its historic buildings.

 

The expanded children's wing will be used for kids' crafts as well as library programs, and focuses on two important improvements. First, there will be a new kitchenette that can be used for hosting various library events throughout the year. And the room will also get a new handicapped-accessible bathroom, one of two bathrooms in the public areas of the building.  Finally, the project will modernize the room's outdoor porch which is extensively used during the summer months when the library has reading programs for children. 

 

"We are so grateful to the community for getting us so close to the finish line, and we are eager to welcome everyone to the celebration in early November," said Library Director Jody Ford.

 

All funds raised through the Autumn Auction will help provide the final touches and furnishings. The project is expected to be completed by late October.  A celebratory gathering is scheduled for November 4th.

Please join us to celebrate the ten-year restoration of the Library's historic buildings!

View the new Children's Wing Expansion, complete with the new Craft Room, Kitchenette and ADA Restroom, and tour the Library to celebrate the many improvements that have taken place. Light refreshments will be served.
At 2pm, a concert of 19th -century guitar music will take place. 

Sunday, November 4,  2pm in the Reference Room

The 19th century was a time of striking innovation and development in the history of this familiar and beloved instrument, and the period is rich with intriguing and delightful repertoire. Guitarist Eric Roth will perform on a beautiful, authentic reproduction instrument modeled after one built in 1830. He will also provide information about the instrument, repertoire, composers, and history.

Here's an opportunity to get your pen or keyboard moving and tell your story. Facilitated by Miriam Frischer, the group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month. Members will write either in the group or at home, and will share with the group only as desired.

This will be a small group, so registration is required. Sign up on the Library's online calendar or call the Program Office, 687-7023 to sign up.

The Library's redoubtable Saturday Knitters  group will meet outdoors (indoors if it's raining) at the Library to knit and sell their wares. Newcomers are welcome to join in.  All proceeds will benefit the Library.

Please bring paper only; no binders. Staples and paperclips do not need to be removed. The shredded paper will be recycled. Limit of 3 boxes per person or business.

Professor Emeritus of Art History at SUNY New Paltz will discuss his newest book, Charles S. Keefe (1876 to 1946): Colonial Revival Architect in Kingston and New York. After four decades of research on the elusive Keefe, Dr. William B. Rhoads brings to life his work and the society and culture in which he worked.   

* The Children's Museum pass is available on a first come, first serve basis.

* Loan period is three (3) days.
* There are no renewals.
* Passes cannot be requested or held.
* Passes must be returned to the Stone Ridge Library circulation desk.
* Late fee is $5.00 per day.
* Borrower is responsible for any replacement fees.

Claudine is a native French speaker, born in Paris and raised in Europe; following a 30 year Government career abroad, she chose Stone Ridge to retire in. Culture, medicine, travels, and anything/everything culinary are favorite subjects-which she would love to share and exchange in French. The program is offered on the third Tuesday of each month.

Beginners are welcome to join our Mahjong group. We have two sets available but welcome additional sets if available to loan. Register on line on the calendar or at the Circulation Desk in the Library, or just walk in.

Every Saturday
10am-noon

The Stone Ridge Library Knitters meet every Saturday morning from 10am - 12noon. All ages and experience levels can join us and drop-in knitters are also welcome. We each bring our own supplies and do our own work, but one of the best things about us is that whatever obstacle or confusion you might encounter, you're likely to receive as much comment and advice as you need to get where you're going with a project. Some of us can help toward the repair of knitted or crocheted items too.

The group is sociable and lively, and our conversation and sharing is just as wide-ranging as our projects. We are especially interested in the UFOs (Un-Finished Objects) that members bring in and love the show and tell of projects under way and being finished, new or old, simple or complex. Though knitting is our love and mainstay, we graciously adapt ourselves to stray crocheters and those of us who simply must take to the hook when the spirit moves. We share articles, magazines and books on knitting. Donations of yarn to the Library get made up into items for sale at the Library Fair and during the winter holidays for the benefit of the Library. Some of us also knit things for local hospitals or for the U.S. troops.
