The Wave
May 18, 2018
The tea yesterday was lovely.  We were able to share our work in perspectives (see details below)  - along with welcoming Nic Chapin to the TRCS family.  We learned some really interesting things about our entire staff - thanks for sharing the laughter!

We are all looking forward to a final three weeks of IP Season.  June is coming quickly toward us, quicker than we would like, it would seem.  We want your kids busy and happy as we end such a successful year.  Please know that June 7th - a magical night indeed - will be full of surprises for everyone.

Independent Project Night will begin @ 7:00 PM out back (we will have chairs for everyone).  We will host with strawberry shortcakes and trust that you will thoroughly enjoy the projects.  This is our 19th year celebrating students learning, as TRCS! Before that.. add 11 more years!   That is quite a track record of building future citizens of our world.  Come celebrate with us!

Carnival Update!
We hope that everyone is aware that the carnival can be a family event for your family. If you have the time and the wishes to join us with your small children, we would love to have you. Everything is free.  Lunch will be the only thing that we will need to purchase, but you also can bring your own lunch!  Please see the order form and turn in orders by June 5th.  We hope to see you on June 11th from 10 - 2:45!

We are looking for some 10x10 (approx.) pop up tents to borrow for the event, if you have one please contact Karen Gault
Health Class Info
Our weekly health classes  have covered some truly positive elements of healthy life.  We shared our work at the tea yesterday and wanted to also share it here. It has led to our plan for the 2018-19 school year.  We are creating a multi year health class that will touch on the many state standards that we are asked to teach.  The State of Oregon is writing mental health lessons, due out in December, we are again, betting them to the punch with TRCS units personalized to what we know works best.  Please click here to see the large look forward into 2018-19 school year.

Elective Updates!
We are having so much fun!  The electives are such a huge positive way to end the school days.  Kids are running, throwing, and hula hooping their way to a healthy balanced IP Season.  We wanted to make sure that we were giving them all kinds of messages that stress is not needed during this time of the year.  Stress is a choice, as well as calm, happy and confident.  We are teaching more positive life choices during our perspectives classes!  Please know that IP is not about stress and more about excitement in learning.
Homework!
We are so thankful for those of you who are letting us know how your kids are fairing on their workload at home..  We have ample time here at school, and want IP to be an "at school" experience.  We know that there is literature to read and math assignments to completed. But we have plenty of time daily to work on IP projects. Once again, let us know if there seems to be more "work" this time of the year. We can help you see all sides and we can help make sure that class time is used wisely.
17-18 Parent Survey
If you haven't had a chance yet, please take a moment to complete the Parent Survey for this school year. We are always looking to improve and provide the best experience for our school community, so please make your voice heard! Thank you to the parents that have already filled it out - we sure appreciate your time!

Would you like to come and see TRCS in action?
We would like to invite you to come if you would like and see how the mornings go at TRCS.  We will be hosting folks from the informational meetings, and wanted to extend the invitation out to you as well.  May 24th 8:30 - 10:00 AM. We hope you will come and see our literature/math amazing teachers at work. Please know that the teaching will be doing on and we ask that you view and visit as quietly as possible.  Thank you and hope to see you!

INTENTION FORMS ARE DUE MAY 25th!
It is time to start thinking of next school year and we invite you to send in your intention forms for the 2018-19 School Year! Click here for the form. These forms will be due to the TRCS office by Friday, May 25th. If we don't hear from you we will call you on Thursday, May 24th, to see if you received the intention form and are planning to return to TRCS next year. Please note, you do not return your form by May 25th, your spot in the school will not be saved. We will be filling any openings from the lottery that is being held on May 31st @ 4:00.

As you consider next year, please keep in mind this is a choice that is family driven. We ask that these conversations happen at home and not at school with friends. There can be undue pressure put on others and we want to keep our kids focused on their work - not on the drama that these intention forms can cause.

Please be aware that your decision is confidential, and we need to know as we build enrollment numbers for the 2017-18 school year. Additionally, we ask that when you make this choice and commitment, you stick to this decision. Any uncertainty or soft commitments for next year affects opportunities for new students and families at TRCS. We know these decisions can be difficult and a lot of thought goes into them. It is very important that everyone know that the decisions made affect more than just an individual and their family. It affects the community as a whole, too. We want to have a clear picture of who will be returning so we can give as many opportunities to those who wish to attend as possible. Thank you so much for your understanding and assistance as we prepare for next year!

Please be sure to email the teachers if your students are doing more than 1 hour for 4/5 and more than 1.5 -2 hours for 6/7/8 per night. We are giving plenty of in class work time for all of the projects.  Our afternoons for the coming weeks will be IP work times. Your kids should only have 20/30 minutes of literature and 20/30 minutes of math. These regular classes continue until the end of the year and IP work occurs during school. If your child "chooses" to work on their projects or are behind, and you believe it is excessive, that is the time that you contact us via email at  [email protected].  We want to make sure that this spring is healthy and happy all the way around.  Thank you for your part in helping with that.
