First meeting with a client? Be clear.
In my experience, the most successful design and marketing is done on the edge. By that I mean, there should be a healthy tension between your opinions and those of your designer.
Rather than making a product or service look or sound good, you want a designer who questions, pushes, and challenges (in a professional sense). If they agree with everything you say, you've hired someone more interested in the pay than the product.
Design is opinion.
