Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

This Sunday we celebrate the beginning of a new season, and come together as a church community in joyous worship and a shared meal afterward on Celebration Sunday. You are invited to join us and be in the presence of God and with others from your church family. And, I encourage you to invite a neighbor or a friend to come with you to experience this over-the-top Sunday experience.

We have been talking this month on the theme of “Neighbors” and what it means for us when Jesus says, “love your neighbor as yourself.” It’s tall order in our modern world. In fact, we seem to live in a world where the definition of neighbor is narrowing, But Jesus asks us to see our neighbors differently and to share love in the way that God loves us. In his travels, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman...

Trunk or Treat - October 26, 2018
Join us for PVUMC’s annual Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 26, 2018 , 6-8 pm, the weekend before Halloween. Kids of all ages are invited to Trick or Treat from the decorated car trunks, parked in front of the sanctuary. The Paradise Perk will be open, we'll have a live band and haunted houses. If you can bring your car, decorate your trunk and hand out candy, let us know!

Sunday Worship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to worship with us at 9:30 or 11 am. There will NOT be an 8 am service this week because it's Celebration Sunday! If you regularly attend the 8 am service, please join us in the sanctuary at 9:30 am for ONE Celebration followed by a Neighborhood BBQ. KT Todd, who joined us in 2013, is back! Listen to her sing here.

The bulletin-free Ignite service at 11 am is celebrating with a larger than usual band and an off-campus gathering at a member's home. Read More about our two services and two celebrations at pvumc.org/news/.

See the website calendar at pvumc.org/calendar for all our children's, youth and adult classes meeting on Sunday mornings, during the week and all year long.

Pick up a new Looking Ahead in worship or read it on the website. The Looking Ahead bulletin insert includes our weekly calendar as well as highlights of upcoming events and programs. We also include weekly prayers of intercession.

New Month, New Journeys Classes
It's almost October, and fall is here, even if it doesn't feel like it! If you're not already part of a fall Journeys small group at pvumc and really don't know where to begin, we have a few new classes that may be a good fit for you. Pastor Dave Summers and his wife, Kim, lead an introductory class on Monday nights in the Fireside Room F8. It's a good way to get better acquainted with the UMC, learn how to better discern where God is leading you, and help you find your spiritual gifts. If you're looking for a new Bible study, join Sam and Vicky Rankin this Sunday as they lead Journey Through James at 9:30 am in G2, the church library. If you're a parent, and have children or youth attending Sunday School at 9:30 am, check it out. You can worship at 11 am Ignite!
Happiness and "The Good Life"
Join us for a special 4-Week Journeys series on Happiness and The Good Life
Monday evenings in October. The lecture, video and discussion series of classes explores the nature and meaning of happiness. What does “The Good Life” mean to you? Hear how the scriptures, psychology, theologians and experience influence how we define happiness and “The Good Life.” The first lecture is at 6:30 pm in the chapel on Monday, October 1 .

Celebration Sunday September 30
You're invited to join your church family for a Neighborhood BBQ on Sunday, September 30. PVUMC's annual Celebration Sunday is fun for the whole family with children's activities, an ice cream truck and grilled burgers and hot dogs. Members are invited to bring homemade desserts to share.

Donations are appreciated along with RSVPs so we can better plan for the event. Please donate at GIVE NOW by choosing "Other" and include "Celebration Sunday" in the comments along with the number of people in your party.

Suggested donation: $10/person or $30/family. The people you invite to join you are your guests, and part of your family.

Mission and Vision
The Church Council recently changed our Mission Statement to our tagline: God's Love in Action. Now, you can wear your church mission on your heart. Buy a church-branded polo shirt at the church gift shop, Serendipities, and wear it as a conversation starter. The shirt comes in all sizes and is a lightweight weave in royal blue. Stop by Serendipities on Sunday, 9-11:30 am, and find your size. Gift shop profits help fund missions, so stop by Sunday and see what else is in the shop -- cards, gifts, decor, books, apparel and more.

NOTE: Childcare is availa ble with a 48-hour reservation for all our
events and classes on campus. Call 602.840.8360, ext 134.
