Every community deals with a certain degree of homelessness and unfortunately Humboldt is no exception. Humboldt County currently has the second highest homeless rate, per capita, in the United States. Yes you read that correctly, please take a minute if you need to let that sink in. Given our areas lack of financial resources and our harsh winter climate, the Arcata House Partnership can use all the help that your willing to give. Even if its just one pair of socks or a couple cans of food, our community could really use your help. After meeting with Darlene Spoor who is the Executive Director of Arcata House, I was shocked to find out that about 95% (of those who were open to filling out a survey) of Humboldt's homeless population were locals. It seemed like such a bizarre idea because I had always heard rumors of mental facilities and prisons giving out free bus tickets to Humboldt, which I know sounds crazy, but I had heard it from so many different people, it was hard for me not to believe. If your reading this I would like to appeal to the soft spot in your heart and ask for you to do anything you can for someone who is a little less fortunate then you. I don't want to get too far out over my skies, but I am currently in talks to hopefully secure more food deliveries from one of our communities culinary giants, which I hope to have more info on soon!
