It was another terrific week at Tangelo Park Elementary School! Parents, it is imperative that your student is on time to school and in attendance each day. Please be reminded that school starts at 8:15 a.m. and students are expected to be in the classroom learning.
We would like to invite you to our next SAC meeting on Thursday, October 4th, from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in the media center.
Progress reports went home Friday, September 21, 2018. Parents, please take the time to review your child's progress report and feel free to contact the main office if you need to schedule a Parent/Teacher Conference with your child's teacher.
The teachers at Tangelo Park Elementary received a $10,000 monetary gift donation from Burlington Stores and Adopt-A-Classroom. Congratulations teachers and students!
We are looking forward to another terrific week at Tangelo Park Elementary.

$10,000 Donation Helps Tangelo Park Elementary Teachers Buy School Supplies
Tangelo Park Elementary was featured in the local news as teachers receive a surprise donation from Burlington Stores.

On September 18th, Tangelo Park Elementary hosted a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) event provided by the National Organization of Black Chemists & Chemical Engineers.

Two quality programs available to all of our Tigers!
Our mentoring school organizations
Young Ladies of Distinction and
Young Men of Promise were created to teach our youth about building positive relationships, displaying quality character trait, and exhibiting positive behaviors towards their peers and adults. In addition, students who join either of these organizations will experience great deal of fun social activities and life-skill lessons!

A time for celebrating the culture, art, and achievements of Hispanic people, September 15th through October 15th has been designated as Hispanic Heritage Month. September 15th also marks the independence days of five Hispanic countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua). Mexico achieved independence on September 16th, and Chile on September 18th.
Family Project:
Begin by brainstorming with your student about all the various aspects of culture, in this case, Hispanic culture. Remind your student that culture is not just race and ethnicity but that culture extends to dance, music, art, architecture, education, family dynamics, film, religion, politics, literature, food, holidays, and much more.
Work with your student to research about the Hispanic country that was selected for your class. Your student will need to present the information they find to their class. Look in your student's agenda for more information.
Turn in before Friday, October 5th, 2018.

Meet Mrs. Pollard
Mrs. Pollard has worked with Orange County Public Schools for 33 years and has been at Tangelo Park Elementary for 2 years. She enjoys the students and staff at TPE. Mrs. Pollard's favorite book is
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Her interests are shopping, interior decorating, and reading.

School-Wide Discipline Plan
ROAR plan rolled out this week
Our ROAR discipline plan was rolled out this week and we will host our ROAR Night "It Takes a Village" meeting on October 29th from 5:45 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Academics
Fifth grade math with Mr. Jamison
Mr. Jamison's fifth grade math class visually represented their knowledge of the order of operations. GEMDAS is a mnemonic used to remembered the order of operations in math problems; Grouping (such as parentheses), Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.

The Tiger Token Store will be opening soon. Students will be able to earn Tiger Tokens from teachers and other staff members for positive behavior. Tiger Tokens can be redeemed for rewards at the Tiger Token Store.
