The chapter prides itself on providing exemplary education programs with dynamic speakers at unique and exciting venues throughout the year. As many of you are aware, the cost of business continues to rise throughout our industry. To ensure the chapter can continue to provide the highest level of educational programing, the tough decision was made to increase registration fees.
Effective July 1st, 2018, MPI Houston will increase luncheon registration fees to $40.00 for members and $55.00 for non-members. The chapter looks forward to a bright future of providing members and prospective members the ability to increase their strategic value with education, professional development and business growth opportunities.

MPI Houston Receives Top Performing Chapter Award
On October 18th, MPI Global released a list of award winners for the inaugural MPI Chapter Recognition Program. The winners for the 2016-2017 term were selected for consistent delivery of quality services to members and superior performance based on objectively measured results.
MPI Houston was named a "Top Performing Chapter" for the 2016-2017 year.

On May 17, 2018, the MPI Houston Area Chapter held its annual awards gala, honoring local industry icon
Luther Villagomez at the Marriott Marquis Houston. Attendees enjoyed incredible food, a stellar silent auction, and connecting with industry friends.
Chapter awards were given out as well, and the winners are:
- Member of the Year: Linda Hampton- Norris, Norris Conference Centers
- Volunteer Member of the Year: Ursula Sloan, Steak 48
- Rising Star: Thuy Pham, Four Seasons Houston
- Student Member of the Year: Nuray Taylor
- Silver Fork Award: Sheraton Suites Galleria

Kim DuBose is the May 2018 volunteer of the month!
Kim is an Account Executive at CORT Event Furnishings. She has been a member of MPI-HAC since 2014
and has been volunteering on the special events since 2018. She will join the Board of Directors as the Director of Special Events for the 2018-2019 MPI year.

Mahek Khwaja (pictured left) graduated in May 2018 from the Conrad N Hilton College of Hotels & Restaurants Management. She joined MPI Houston as a student member in January 2017 and became the Director of Finance for the MPI University of Houston Cougar Student Club. Mahek is excellent at budgeting and money managing. She has landed a job with CBRE upon her graduation! Congratulations, Mahek!
Marissa Maners (pictured right) just graduated from the Conrad N Hilton College of Hotels & Restaurants Management in May. She joined MPI Houston as a student member in January 2017 and quickly became involved to serve the MPI University of Houston Cougar Student Club as the Administrative Director. Marissa's organizing skills contributed a huge part to the success of the Student Organization. Upon graduation, Marissa moved back to Dallas to pursue a career with the White Rock Coffee company. Good luck with your new journey, Marissa!

Cahal Mowery, MBA, CMP

Cahal Mowery attended the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management at the University of Houston (Go Coogs & Case Keenum!) to pursue his passion of the hospitality industry on a full scholarship. Upon a final semester abroad and graduation, Cahal joined Visit Houston as a National Account Executive of the Convention Sales Team. After fulfilling multiple sales markets over the course of 6 years with Visit Houston, Cahal joined the market's newest luxury hotel, the JW Marriott Houston Downtown, as the Director of Sales & Catering. Today, Cahal blends his enthusiasm for the industry, DMO and hotel sales leadership experience at Visit Denver, where he serves as the Director of Convention Sales, leading the 9-member EMM and Mid-Market sales team (<950 peak). Through his experience, Cahal has earned his Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation, has served as President for the Meeting Professionals International-Houston Area Chapter (MPI-HAC), has been named a recipient of Connects 40 Under 40 2014 class as well as PCMA's 20 in their Twenties 2018 class, and earned his MBA from the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. When not in the office, Cahal enjoys exploring Denver with his wife (Mallory Mowery - taking his last name was true love!), cooking, wine (he is a Certified Sommelier), staying active in the outdoors, and traveling.
