Announcing Full Text Search on BHL!
Search results in the library will now display hits for your term in both the bibliographic information (i.e. title, author, subject, etc.) as well as the full text of books in BHL. We've enhanced the search interface with faceted browsing, making it easier for you to explore your search results by applying filters for content type, publication date, subject, and more. You can also search for terms within a book you are viewing using our new "search inside" functionality.

2018 BHL Annual Meeting in Los Angeles

On 13-15 March 2018, 35 BHL partner representatives from 11 countries gathered in Los Angeles for the
2018 BHL Annual Meeting, co-hosted by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) and the Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden.
In addition to the business portion of the meeting, a series of symposia allowed attendees to hear from both users and partners about BHL's impact on science and projects to mobilize scanning efforts worldwide.
Hosts Richard Hulser (NHMLAC) and Susan Eubank (L.A. Arboretum) also arranged exemplary tours for meeting attendees at the museum, the gardens, the La Brea Tar Pits, and The Huntington.
At the close of the meeting, during a Hollywood-style reveal worthy of the Oscars, the result of the Member vote on the host for next year's meeting was announced. The winner? Cornell University! We look forward to gathering in Ithaca, New York for the 2019 BHL Annual Meeting!

BHL Welcomes the University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg
The University Library Johann Christian Senckenberg serves as the Central Library of the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main and functions as an academic library for the City of Frankfurt. As a BHL Affiliate, the University Library will expand BHL's corpus by contributing content from its rich Biology Collection, which includes some 400,000 volumes on a wide range of biological subjects.

Chicago Botanic Garden Receives $200,000 to Digitize Language of Flower Books for BHL

The Lenhardt Library of the Chicago Botanic Garden
has received over $200,000 from a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant awarded to the Chicago Horticultural Society for the conservation and digitization of 62 rare and unique "language of flower" books published in the 19th century.
Over the next three years, the volumes will be conserved and digitized by expert staff at the Northeast Document Conservation Center and subsequently uploaded to the Biodiversity Heritage Library.
The Lenhardt Library has been a BHL Affiliate since 2014.

Exploring the Birds of Canada
Birds of Canada (1934) remains one of the best accounts of Canadian birds. Authored by Percy Algernon Taverner, who built from scratch the ornithology department at the Canadian Museum of Nature, the work is notable for its extensive illustrations by Allan Brooks.

Uncovering the Stories Behind Kew's Museum of Economic Botany Collection
"Abnormal growth of a radish". "Malformation of stem of Geonoma". The Kew Gardens' Museum of Economic Botany's
"Entry and Exit books" list every specimen sent out from or received by the museum since 1847 - including these unusual items. These logbooks are being digitized in BHL as part of the Kew Mobile Museum project.
