Good Morning RCS Parents,
|
|
RCS is pleased to report that there are no RCS staff or students who are sick with COVID-19. All is well, and we continue to take necessary precautionary actions based upon advice from the
CDC
and the
Alameda Country Public Health Department
.
Furthermore, in light of recent outbreaks of the sickness in other countries, RCS is updating its COVID-19 policy:
- Students and staff are to stay home for 14 days if they, or a family member has just returned from a Level 2, 3, or 4 Country, as defined by the CDC. RCS faculty will work with students to ensure that work can be completed.
- Students and staff who are sick are required to remain home until they are well and no longer contagious.
- Level 1, Exercise normal precautions
- Level 2, Exercise increased precautions
- Level 3, Reconsider transmission
- Level 4, Do not travel
The US Department of State has issued a
level 4 travel advisory
asking people not to travel to
China
due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Please call your campus office speak if you have any questions or concerns. We want to avoid miscommunication and false rumors which can cause unwarranted stress and worry.

When is Too Sick for School?
|
Please be considerate about spreading any known illnesses. We have seen an influx of sick students in our offices, and we ask that you help us stay as germ-free as possible!
|
|
RCS Facilities staff will be wiping down commonly touched surfaces such as door knobs and light switches on a daily basis during this time and throughout the winter season.
We would like to use this as an opportunity to remind you about some best practices to avoid spreading any infection:
- If your child is sick or exhibiting contagious symptoms such as fever, coughing, or sneezing, please keep them home from school to avoid spreading illness. Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school without the aid of fever reducing medication.
- Remind your child that hands should be washed often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Washing hands more frequently, especially after being in public places, is one of the best defenses against contracting illnesses.
- When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or cough and sneeze into their clothing sleeves. Dispose of tissue immediately and wash hands.
- Avoid contact with anyone exhibiting cold-like symptoms.
If your child must be home for extended time for any reason, teachers will work with you to keep your child updated with class work. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration for everyone’s health and safety.
Additionally, if planning travel to China please refer to the
CDC’s Traveler Guidance website
and follow appropriate safety precautions. Again, we are confident in the global health community’s assessment of a low risk level, and will be monitoring the situation closely in case that assessment changes.
In the meantime, if you have any additional questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to school administration. For more information, please read the attached Alameda County Health Alert about the Novel Coronavirus.

Thank you all for partnering with us to keep our community safe and healthy. Please feel free to email your campus principal or me with any further questions or concerns.
In Christ,
Al Hearne, II, PhD
Superintendent
