Sept 29, 2pm, Perrot Library - STRAWS . Radcliffe Library Program Room. In partneship with the Greenwich Conservation Commission, Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board, and BYO Greenwich.

Oct  6, 9am, Greenwich Color Challenge, 1.5 Mile Color Fun Run & Obstacle Course. ISD is hosting their 2nd Annual Greenwich Color Challenge. Run, walk, jump, dodge, climb and get covered in color with your family and friends.

Oct 6, 9am, DART To The Finish, Walking to cure Niemmann-Pick Type C. Charity walk at Tod's Point (Greenwich Point Park). Open to all - Greenwich residents and non-residents. Sign-in opens at 8am at the Clam Bake picnic area. 

Oct 13th, 11-4pm, OGS Pumpkin Patch, Old Greenwich School. Games for all ages, bounce houses, the famous "spook-tacular" hanted house, hay maze,crafts, a magician, karaoke, a live raffle with fabulous prizes and loads of pumpkins and great food.

Oct 14, 2-5pm, OGRCC's 75th Anniversary Celebration - Set Sail, Binney Park, Old Greenwich. Sailboat regatta, food, drinks, crafts & more. For more information call (203) 637-3659.

Dear Parents,

As we say good bye to September and hello to October we have many fun PTA Sponsored events coming including a few below to highlight:

  • Friday, September 28 (TODAY) - Deadline to update your directory information for inclusion in our print directory
  • Wednesday, October 3rd - Last day to drop off costumes for reuse and recycling as part of our Halloween Swap
  • Thursday, October 4th - Boo Bash tickets go on sale and we'll be hosting our first ever Halloween Swap as we go Green for Halloween!
  • Friday, October 5th - Peter Pan performance connected to our Summer Reading Initiative (during school for kids only)
  • Tuesday, October 9th - School Photo Day
  • Thursday, October 11th - Open House/ Back to School Night
  • Saturday, October 20th - Riverside Round Up Fall Fundraiser
  • Friday, October 26th - Boo Bash!

DEADLINE IS TODAY TO UPDATE YOUR DIRECTORY INFORMATION!
Go online and update your family information and  your child's teacher for this year. The deadline for the Print Directory Information is TODAY!   While you're there, we encourage all parents to become PTA members. Not only does it support all the amazing programs our PTA brings into the sc hool, it also gives you unlimited access to the online and app directory. 

Visit the PTA Website  for more information. And if you have moved or have new p hone or email information, please let the school office know as well!  There is also an app for our online directory called "Membership Toolkit" so you can access information on the go! 
FALL FU NDRAISER TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
This year's annual Riverside School Fall Fundraiser, "Riverside Round Up", will be on Saturday, October 20th at the Arch Street Teen Center from 7-10pm. Purchase your tickets now! There's also an opportunity to donate even if you can't attend. For questions about  the event, to volunteer or to pay for tickets

"ROUND UP" YOUR RIVERSIDE SCHOOL PICTURES!
We are creating a slide show for the fall fundraiser featuring PTA sponsored programs and events. Submit any photos you are willing to share to  riversideschoolfundraiser2018@gmail.com  by October 1st. Please limit submissions to two photos per family per event. We are collecting photos from both the 2018-19 and 2017-18 school years that are on school grounds, events or field trips including: Parade of Learners, Play-in-A-Day, Boo Bash, Pizza Bingo, STEM Fair, school play, dance residency, field trips, all Arts in Ed and Science in Ed programs. RIVERSIDE SCHOOL'S HALLOWEEN COSTUME SWAP
We are still Collecting Costumes and Accessories!!!
Riverside School's Halloween costume swap is coming up so sort through your bags of costumes from past years and bring them in to school!

Collecting: clean, gently used and complete/partly complete costumes of all sizes. Accessories are welcome whether accompanied by a costume or not.
Drop off: anytime until Wed. Oct 3rd under the "Oops" table in the entrance of school.
Swap date: Thursday Oct 4th from 9:00 to 10:30am in the Cafe.
BOO BASH HALLOWEEN PARTY - FRIDAY OCTOBER 26TH

Get excited for a Spook-tacular evening....this year's annual BOO BASH Halloween party will take place at Riverside School on Friday, October 26th. Fliers went home today in backpacks with more details. Tickets go on sale  THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4TH AT 9:00AM  and will be sold  online only  at  RIVPTA.ORG

D ue to capacity restraints we ask that you please limit ONE adult ticket PER one child. The event will sell out, so please don't wait to get your tickets. This is a really fun event the kids look forward to every year! If you are interested in volunteering to help set up/break down day of or work a volunteer shift at the party we would love your help. PETER PAN - ONE MORE WEEK TO READ THE SUMMER BOOK!
The Summer Theater of New Canaan will be performing a version of Peter Pan during a student assembly next week on October 5th. 

The central Greenwich Public Library and Perrot have copies of the suggested grade-appropriate versions of Peter Pan. Check out RIVPTA.ORG  for other purchasing options and more information!

PICTURE DAY - SAVE THE DATE
School Picture Day is October 9th. K-4 Order forms should be coming home in your child's Friday folder TODAY. 5th grade order forms will come home next week. There are two ways to order. Either fill out the enclosed order form and return it to school with your child or you can order school pictures online at  http://www.coffeepond.com. HIGH TOUCH HIGH TECH
This week, the kindergarteners had their first High Touch-High Tech program, " Let 's  Make   Sense ".  They had fun while they explored their five  senses , one  sense  at a time.  They discovered how much they rely on their  senses  and how easy they are to fool!   This program was part of the PTA's Science in Education programming.
ART IN EDUCATION
Henry Jones led drumming workshops with each of the first grade classes this week.  Students were introduced to the rhythms of African drumming while playing handmade West African drums.  The classes also learned about the drums' origins and other instruments. This workshop was part of the PTA's Arts in Education programming.

SBA TEST RESULTS - INFORMATION SESSION
Testing results for the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) from this past spring were sent home last Friday with our current 4th and 5th grade students who took the assessment. 

On Wednesday, October 3 at 9 am in our  Café Mr. Weiss and Ms. Key will hold an informational meeting for parents (all grade levels are invited) to review the format of the individual SBA reports as well as share the SBA results for Riverside School and next steps for our school. 
FLUORIDE RINSE PROGRAM
The fluoride rinse program, will  take place on Wednesday, October 10th for all students with some of the first grade starting on  Wednesday, October 3. Please have your children come to the cafeteria at drop off time if they  have returned their permission forms. Please remember to submit the fluoride permission forms if  you have not already done so. Volunteers will be there to assist them if there are any questions. If  you have any questions, please feel free to contact me, Jeannie Schnakenberg, RDH, at 622-3779.
OPEN HOUSE NIGHT - OCTOBER 11TH.
Our Open House Evening is Thursday, October 11th. Please note the following visitation times (and the start time for K-2)

Classroom Visits
6-6:45 pm -  Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade  classroom visits 
7:15-8 pm -  3rd, 4th, and 5th grade  classroom visits with the teacher

Specialist Visits
6:45-7:30 - Parents can visit any of our  specialist teachers  in their rooms to learn about the programs offered (P.E., Art, Music, Media,  FLES /Native, Special Education,  ESOL , Literacy/Reading and our Speech teacher as well as our School Psychologist). 

Please note that our ALP teachers will have  their Open House on another date (more information will follow from Mrs.  Mo zer  and Mrs. Hancock for those parents).

SAVE THE DATE - MATH NIGHT FOR PARENTS  
Greg Tang will facilitate a Math Night for Parents on Tuesday,
October 16th  at  North Mianus from 6:00p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Greg will present for 
one  hou r followed by a question and answer period.  
 

Next Parent Night will be on March 12, 2019 at Glenville.
ODYSSEY OF THE MIND 
Is your school interested in becoming part of our vibrant 
Greenwich Odyssey of the Mind program? Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. 

This after school program is Ideal for all budding actors, writers, artists, singers, gizmo builders, creative and gifted kids. Learn 21st century skills, STEM programs and about the fun projects this year. Teams of 5-7 students (grades K-2, 3-5) will be formed based upon interest. Forms need to be collected in the offices at each school or through an interested parent/teacher coordinator. Coaches will also need to be found. 
Teams will be formed at schools and a parent organizational meeting for each team will be mandatory for participation in the 2018- 2019 Odyssey program. Questions:  You may also call: (917) 257-3256. 

Greenwich Odyssey of the Mind is part of the Reaching Out Grants Program through the Greenwich Alliance for Education.
