From Your Interim Pastor
The testimonies given and the questions discussed at this past Thursday's confirmation
 hearings received intense media coverage. How two people can be 100% sure that each has the absolute truth gave me reason to pause and reflect on one of the six Great Ends of the Church as found in the Presbyterian Church (USA) Book of Order (F-1.0304). The fourth one is "the preservation of the truth." One could take a cynical view, like Pontius Pilate did, with the dismissive question "What is truth?" (John 18:38). One legal analysist gave the most concise post-modern assessment: "Who you believe depends on who you are and what you bring to the issue." If that is remotely true, then it is essential that we should be intentional about what we allow to form us, our views, and our consciences. We believe that the Holy Spirit uses the Scriptures, worship, and the community of faith to transform us by renewing our minds, so that we "may discern what is the will of God - what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2).
This week I was struck by two truths. 1) Needy people are found everywhere and the Church responds to their need. A host of volunteers went out of their way to minister in practical ways to needy families this week through the outreach of Interfaith Hospitality Network. We are grateful to the many people who, with sacrifice and joy, accepted this challenge. 2) God still calls individuals to ministries of the church and people respond with their lives.
This Sunday, if the way be clear, we will participate in the ordination and installation service for two deacons, whom God has called through the voice of this congregation. Their commitment and enthusiasm are energizing. So join us this Sunday as we celebrate God's gracious call, Christ's ministry among us, the Holy Spirit's work of renewal and transformation.

A Month in Sunday School
We wrap-up our study of the Book of Nehemiah this Sunday. We learned that Nehemiah, a cup bearer who guarded the king's drink from poison, was an individual on the lookout for what needs to be done. When he saw a need, he didn't wait for someone else to act. While rebuilding the wall in Jerusalem, he stayed focused and showed us that people matter more than things! This Sunday we celebrate what God has done, as they did in Jerusalem after rebuilding the wall.
 Our weekly lessons build upon one another as we explore our theme for the month. That is why October brings new opportunities! If your child has not yet started Sunday School, now is the time. You can download the
Sunday School Registration Form and bring it to church on Sunday. Please email [email protected] with questions.

Last Monday and Tuesday, a group from church headed to Lancaster, PA to attend the Orange Tour "We Can Do More Together" to help us implement our curriculum for children and support parents more effectively. So much to be excited about!

Jersey Shore Remembers - Paying it Forward With Cleanup Supplies Over the Month of October
Kyle and Frank Jones are collecting items that will be sent down to Hurricane Florence survivors in affected areas in the Carolinas.
Throughout the month of October, look for Kyle and Frank after church on Sundays. Frank's black pickup will be by the CE Annex driveway. They will collect your items and load them into their black pickup truck or just put them in the bed of the truck. You can pull up your car by the driveway so there is no need for carrying items into church. Items can also be dropped off in the office at anytime in October.
Here's a list of items that are needed now, mainly cleaning, muck-out supplies:
Cleaning supplies, bleach , 5-gallon buckets, contractor garbage bags, flashlights, batteries, soap, hand sanitizer, baby/adult wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, plastic silverware, solar chargers, solar/battery fans, solar lights, ax, generators, work gloves, masks, wheel barrels, hand saws, rakes, shovels, plastic zip bags all sizes, rubber work boots, dehumidifiers, crowbars, hammers, utility knives, sledge hammer, chainsaws, rope, safety glasses, moldicides, large candles, air circulators, extension cords, ground fault protectors, pop-up canopies, dish soap, first-aid kits, collars and leashes, collapsible dog crates, dog bowls, dog beds, cat litter, dog/cat food, Ensure, aspirin, pain relief, nonperishable food (not expired), canned meat (vienna sausage, tuna, spam, chicken, ham, beef stew, soup, peanut butter, beans (can and dry), vegetables/fruits in a can, spaghetti, beef jerky, Slim Jim's, CAN OPENERS - NO GLASS

Thank You From Linda Chase
Thank you to all you wonderful people of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. My last
 Sunday with you was so uplifting and a fantastic way to end my 42 years in ministry. A special thanks goes to the choir for the uplifting music.
A special thanks goes out to all the women of PW for making HOME MADE cookies and delicious sandwiches. The kitchen crew outdid itself with putting the reception together which was beautiful.
I was touched by the generous gift of money and all the kind words you spoke to me. I could not have asked for a better group of people than all of you to walk with me in our faith journey together.

This Week at Point Beach Prep
What better book to read for "B" week than "Brown Bear Brown Bear"? Most of the children know the book already but our Nursery friends added a twist by placing beautiful felt pieces made by the church onto a board to go with each animal in the story. They also loved going on a bear hunt. They read the book "We're Going on a Bear Hunt", by Michael Rosen, and pretended to hunt for a bear. Some of their crafts were making blue birds, butterflies and bugs. They also enjoyed bowling!
Our Pre-K had fun bowling, bouncing balls and walking on the balance beam! They brainstormed B words and looked for the letter b in their books. They looked for things in the classroom that were blue. They rolled balls from play-dough and had fun playing in their new bug center. They talked about the life cycle of a butterfly. Their sight word is "be" and ASL is "boy". Their projects included making butterflies, bead bracelets, bears and a bean craft. Their stories included Blueberries for Sal and Bear's Bargain. During Music and Movement they sang The Gummy Bear Song, If I were a Butterfly, Peanut Butter and Jelly and Row Row Row Your Boat.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with IHN this past week. We had a full house and are very grateful for so many of you volunteering in different ways. Clean laundry can be returned to the Fellowship Room. For those interested in learning more about IHN, there will be a training event on October 7th.
